Virginia man sheds 80 pounds eating at McDonald's

Fri Jun 20, 2:25 PM ET

A Virginia man lost about 80 pounds in six months by eating nearly every meal at McDonald's. Not Big Macs, french fries and chocolate shakes. Mostly salads, wraps and apple dippers without the caramel sauce.

Chris Coleson tipped the scales at 278 pounds in December. The 5-foot-8 Coleson now weighs 199 pounds and his waist size has dropped from 50 to 36.

The 42-year-old businessman from Quinton says he chose McDonald's because it's convenient.

His inspiration came from his two children and from the story of a blind war veteran who rode a tandem bicycle cross-country.

Coleson says his goal is to get back to the 185 pounds he weighed when he married Tricia Summer. Their 10th anniversary is Saturday.

Do you reckon Mcdonalds will hire him as a spokesperson in commercials as Subway did for Jared Fogel?

I've heard of this before tbh....not him, but other people saying that you can lose weight eating McDonald's and of course its a jab at Subway....I get so tired of everyone trying to promote their products for losing weight....if everyone would stop eating supersized fried crap.....we'd all feel better to some degree...simple as that!

I just can't comprehend how anyone can eat any of that stuff ever - unless you were totally starving, and there was nothing else. Totally beyond me. And it's not just the awful kind of food, it's the ambience. How can anyone eat sitting squashed in with the crowds shovelling fat-dripping burgers and oversalted chips into their faces while slurping a couple of pints of fizzy chemicals. Or worse, carting that type of stuff off to shovel into their faces as they walk, or drive... ?????????????

When my two younger kids left home they told me they had a small orgy of fast food - having almost never had it before. This lasted maybe two weeks. Now they buy fresh, and cook.

Not likely, IMO.

He's not "telegenic", and he looks much older than his 42 years. I would have pegged him around 60, from the photos.

There's a Subway not too far from me in Canberra. I have to go past it often. I know the food there is meant to be healthier, but the servings are ENORMOUS! And the smell of their kind of bread sort of steaming away is ... well, it's not what my nostrils recognise as good crusty baking bread.

It gives the impression on being healthier because you can add salad and so on.

There was a tv show in the UK recently when it tested a subway sandwich and it had as much salt as 9 bags of ready salted crisps in it.

And I agree it smells rank.

I can't get over how expensive this food is, for the same amount of money you make so much food from fresh!

...and it's incredibly easy to screw up a salad, and still think you're eating better.

I have a single serving packet (43ml/1.5 oz) of Greek salad dressing in my refrigerator.

The Nutrition Facts label on the back says it contains 28 grams of fat. That's 43% of the recommended daily value!

very interesting post. I never thought eating at McDonald can actually lose weight.

high fat, trans fat items that makes me think they are indeed very unhealthy

but after reading this story. I need to change my mind,

perhaps Mcdonald are happy when they saw a guy like that do lose weigth

by taking their more "healthier approach".
