Living Over the Top

Post by QUINNSCOMMENTARY »

I have tried to make the point in several ways over the past many months, the point being that many people are in a financial mess, not because of external forces outside their home, but rather because of their way of living and their newly acquired definition of necessities and even their idea of a standard home.

This article from MSN.com says it better than I could with some good examples. What do you think where do a 3,000 SF home, a weekly hair treatment, a flat panel TV, a weekly manicure fit into the mix?

I'm wondering if we are the only family in their 30's that don't own a flat panel tv, or have hi-def tv??

I belong to a group for stay at home moms and I hear all these woman moan and groan about the economy and their bills. Then turn around and talk about how their kids can never wear such cheap clothes that come from Wal-mart and such.

We all find the money for the things that are important to us. All of us value different things. Things we value changes from time to time.

What we need to remembers, when others complain about their lack of funds and/or goods or critize our spending, it is all a matter of choices. Choose well now or later you may truely have much to lament.

Everyone chooses to spend and save differently.

RE: credit cards.....when we use ours, when I return from the store, that purchase is transferred to my chequing account THEN.

...not at the end of the month.

- If I cannot afford it, I do not buy it.

- Monies spent on frivious things that one doesn't need, can add up to alot, therefore leaving no savings account to buy the things they really want.

-Some spent countless amounts on entertainment, restaurants, movies, shows, hundreds of dollars are spent.

We rent a movie and order a pizza. $20.00

We work hard for our money, we spend and save wisely.
Life is just to short for drama.

I never can figure out how people can go out to eat, go to the theater or movies, and those extra things. They have been gone from my budet for about 6 months. I thought of it over the weekend, and figured it was the medical expenses, if I didn't spend those, I would have those luxuries or a tudy nest egg. But I would rather have my husband at home, so those other things are not very important anymore.

Assets-Liabilities = Net Worth-------------to me, this is the measure of how well people are doing financially. Many of the folks that are OVER THE TOP with their life style have a negative net worth, but then, that may be the case with our country as well.
