We have those too. Sites. We apparently spent a half a billion pounds over the last three years building a supplementary shopping district next to Broadmead, just in time for the end of consumerism.

No, Leeds has got a great centre. I'm quite amazed at how many tourists come here. When I get the chance, I will study it's history.

I've only been here a year but when my circumstances have improved, I intend to do a lot of visiting. I'm in a good position to go to the downs, the lake district, the peak district, etc.

I haven't been to Liverpool as yet. I haven't even been to Blackpool as yet.:wah:

I bet it was. I notice there's a crisp white layer of frost this morning. I shall have to drive carefully when I go to pick up my daughter.

Thank you, Spot. I know that Dewsbury's history involved making wool (where I was before moving to Leeds). Especially the type used for army uniforms. I forget the name of the type of wool they made now but I know it was made from old material.

Shoddy. Originally a compliment on high quality and sought for from the four corners of the world, eventually turned upside down into a term of contempt. I haven't a clue how these inversions of meaning happen but they're commonplace.

The wool history of Leeds goes back to Norman times at least.

I'm hoping to take advantage of an offer by the central library. I'll try to make it my Christmas present to myself. They are selling a set of maps, 14 all told, of Leeds. These are genuine copies of maps that existed and as far as I can tell some go back to the 17th century.

It sounds an exciting offer, facsimile maps showing the changes over five centuries. Is there an Archaeological Society too? If there is I expect they give regular talks on what they've found locally.

The Peak District is worth a visit and The Hanging Gate pub at Langley has fantastic views and great food. It is not far from Macclesfield.

When you say the downs, do you mean the Yorkshire dales?

Blackpool is not the place it was. We used to take the children when they were younger and they loved the fair, but it was a dear day out. I wouldn't go back there.

I've no idea at the moment. Ironically, now I'm back online, I seem to get less time to go to the library.
