The Meaning of Mincemeat

Post by Oscar Namechange »

There is no reason for mincemeat.

The tradition came around the middle ages when short of food during the black death, folk had to find something to eat and stuff pastry with. As there was no food, the inventor of Mincemeat, 'Sir Stuffitt', swept up the floor one night with a mixture of horse dung, dead cockroach's, scabs from the dying, sawdust and broken chickens claws.

So the contents would not be discovered, he minced it all up together and that's where the name 'mince' pie's came from.

These were a great success and have been part of the British heritage ever since.

Health Inspectors now freeze dry any caught cockroaches to sell on the mince pie's factories and chickens now cut their own claw nails to sell on as well.

'Sir Stuffitt' made a fortune from his mince pie's and went on to become a member of the House of Lords winning the 'Noble Mince-Pie award in 1647.

Later in life, Sir Stuffitt also went on to make a killing by sweeping up debris from forests and woods, spraying it with under-arm deodorant, calling it 'pot-pori' and selling it to posh people.

Scabs from the dying were rounded into balls, dipped into left over sneeze drippings and called 'chessy wotsits'.

Sir stuffitt, also took dead twigs from tree's dying from 'Dutch Elm Disease', rolled them in black glue and named them 'Twiglets'

Mincemeat initially began as a way to preserve food. It would likely have been made in large batches and canned or stored. In many ways, early mincemeat resembled the ingredients cut up for sausages like black pudding and white pudding. The term gets its name from fine cutting of animal ingredients and fruit, essentially mincing the ingredients needed to make mincemeat.:eek::lips:
