Hello all, another new one in the group

Post by Xxena »

Most of the long time message boards I've posted on for years have decided for one reason or another to shut down... kinda sad, like losing an old friend(s).

Don't make the mistake of typing "adult message boards" into a search engine... although they can be "interesting and fun" at times, was NOT what I had in mind.

On the invite of a long time fellow poster I went to a new board she started and found myself playing everyone's mother vs. someone to relate to with similar age, likes, dislikes and experiences. I love my kids but they do bug me.. their arrogance and immaturity at their 20 something ages coupled with their know it all stages... was multiplied by 1001 on this new board and it was time to go elsewhere.

Seems like a good range of topics here and lots I'm interested in or involved in.. so will give it a try.

About me ... 50ish, female, married 27 years to the same crabby old guy..2 daugthers in their 20's... interests are our family business, my kids, the dog kids.. we have pitbulls, we're heavy into the outdoors and outdoor sports like fishing, hunting etc... born and raised in Chicago and live in far NW Illinois at present and

chomping at the bit to get the hell out of this state for good. Spend a lot of time at our house in very NE MN off the Canadian border.. my education and work background is extemely varied so hard to pigeon hole it here in a few paragraphs. I tend to be very independent and outspoken when it comes to topics and fields I'm well versed in. My activies from personal to work is in the businessfield including extensive computer work, sales and marketing in a number of fields, business management and accounting, medical field (EMS for people and animal behavior predominately canine pack order, and politics on a number of levels both as a retired local level politican as well as a long time political activist in a number of hot topic areas (womens'a rights, child abuse, gun rights, dog breed discrimination to name a few) .. not your typical stay at home - soccor mom. I don't do the Republican or Democrat thing.. I'm a true independent although I tend to lean to the moderate side like most of country. Compassionate, big hearted and giving yes to a fault but if you cross me watch your back ! Don't mess with my husband my kids, my dogs or my guns and we'll get along just fine...

that's about it for now.. I'm here off and on all hours of the day and night since my business has me working very odd hours and most days of the week.

Ciao...;)

I was going to sign off but saw your posts and welcomes.. thanks !

Old habits die hard and one was working with domestic abuse victims.. and that poor lady seems to fit the case all to well !!

Spunky is one of the nicer things I've been called over the years.. my husband just laughs... maybe if I didn't grow up in Chicago and still have our business in it and live close enough to it I would not despise it and what it is so much.. but I do and no lying about it. Know a lot of downstate people via various political activist groups as well as clients and they're great people, but chicago .. you can have it and take Fatboy Daley with you...

Time my job/business consumes of my time can vary from day to day so if I find an active board I am an active poster otherwise I'll read and just wait for something interesting to contribute. Still, good way to meet people and make friends over time.

Thanks again for the welcome, I'm going to do my little contribution part tomorrow and then set up profile etc. Hope to chat with you both again soon. Bear with me as I get use to a new board and all its bells and whistles...

Xx:p

:wah: question is not IF we leave Illinois, the question is WHEN... with a business its hard. Still trying to find the right people to train for middle management, all the time and energy spent on the last few was really a waste of it all. Seems that too many now a days don't have the work ethic or loyalty to their job/employer/company that we did at their age, its all about $$ and one ups manship with their fellow employees. SO, back to square one. Plan is to get house ready and on market next year sometime... when that sells, we move to our house in very northern MN for the time being. Work with the latest group in training (they are not new employees at all just new to being in managment positions) and see how it goes. LIfe's too short to die trying to make sure everyone else is happy and taken care of that does not appreciate it !!

Where exactly we go from here we haven't figured out yet. Husband has to be on water - house in MN is ON WATER.. big WATER... we had thought about the Ozark area of Arkansas also but when I found out you can't build on the lakes, all lake shore is owned by the US Army Corp Engineers that killed that idea.. so we think we'll use the MN house as basecamp so to speak and do a little traveling and see what will be the warm spot launch pad :D , since the colder climate one we already have.

Thanks for all the welcomes... lots of work to get done today and tons of phone calls to make and return so I'll check back in and start to check things out as time permits or the usual, when I'm sitting on hold forever..

Cya all around !!

X

Welcome, XXena!

I am also "50ish", female, and was born in Chicago. However, since we moved from there when I was a mere fourteen, my memories of Chicago are childhood memories. I don't believe I could live there now as an adult. I visit the Chicago Tribune website regularly. Chicago, "at a glance" seems like a stranger to me.

Here in Georgia,I work in the Human Resource department of my company, so I am aware of the office ethic. I have been there for fourteen years. We are a relatively small department. I try to be a "team player" and conduct myself in a courteuos and professional way. We have our "good ole boys" cliche, and I had a thread on "the diva in my office". :) I do like my job very much, but the pay could be better.

I hope we do keep hearing from you. Forum Garden is a good place to go when you have a little time on the PC to express yourself and to see what others have to say.

Well if I had a brother lets hope he was more like me ( or you)than my real sister is:lips:

I haven't had a lot of time to read many of the topics and posts but so far it seems more of a site/group that works for me (like some of the old stomping grounds now kaput !) than the few current ones other board buddies had directed me to, to join them. Maybe I should clarify a comment I made, I have NO problems with the younger generations as long as they engage brain before opening mouths.. unfortunately that forum/boards my one friend pleaded with me to check out and join was more mouth less gray matter on the part of about 98.5% of the posters regardless of which of the boards I checked into or posted on. Frustrating to say the least...

As for the XX part .. name was "given to me" years ago - roughtly 12 - 15 on one of the really active gun boards back then by one of the resident antigunners who seemed like more of our side than the other oddly enough. He named me Xxena the gun warrior princess thinking it would tick me off .. instead I changed my screen name to it liking it and have kept it since for most boards. The guy still emails me occassionally for some friendly chit chat.. we learned over years as long as we stayed off the "gun topic" we actually got along very well and had a lot in common.

 after a few too many one night and fight with his Mrs... he was online looking for someone to talk to and found me and confided he used to be an avid hunter (bird) but his current wife made him get rid of everthing and would not hear about any firearms in the house (tad odd since he was career military and she married him knowing that). His honest position that no one knew but me and one other poster was he thought all women should be issued CC permits after extensive training for their own protection from the mad and the bad out there.. but males should not be allowed same. Interesting concept to a degree.. what do you think about that Baby Rider ? His wife tolerated the online friendship he had with me and the other poster (another female that I do know personally) until his oldest daugther emailed her and I (checking out Dad's address book) for help on her progun term paper in high school.. guess that set the wife off big time and only hear from him on rare occasions now and then... I'm so glad my husband is NOT like that.

Accountable (accountant by trade ???) you seem to be the resident "I like to stir the pot" type.. every board needs one .. keeps thing lively and going ;)

As for the Chicago comments... great lakefront, museums and restaurants, hate the traffic, congestion, crime, politicans and wall to wall concrete and buildings, other than that.. great city I guess

After having and running our own business for 20 plus years I don't know if I could go back to working for someone else, other than the freedom of no longer being the "go to" person for everything under the sun and the one always responsible for the money in - out and otherwise... most employers have and would love my work ethic but I'm hardly the "team player type"... much much too independent and at my age and this stage of the game .. I don't do the butt kissing part no way, no how ... plus my tolerance level for fellow employees that like to goldbrick and let someone else carry the load while they stand around boasting to the world via their over inflated ego's how wonderful they are... I'd have to hit them.. sorry but when you're that obnoxious you are just asking for it! I worked with enough of that type for too many years before Hubby dragged me into their family business to be the company accountant and office manager..

Yikes its 10PM already... day has flown by and I feel like I've accomplished nothing.. is it ONLY MY DESK that the paperwork seems to multiply and regenerate over night when we're all sleeping ????

Well with luck will get caught up here by this time tomorrow then I will have some R&R time to browse this forum and see who's who in the zoo and what's going on..

any suggestions ladies and gents for various areas to check out first ?

Have a nice evening all.. what's left of it and catch you later !

Ciao... X

Honestly? I think it's nuts. This is a military man with this opinion? Really weird. I think that a person's gender should have nothing to do with their right (or ability) to carry. How does that even fit into the equation? How did he come to this opinion? Perhaps there's an angle that hasn't occurred to me, though I can't imagine what it would be...That's got to be one of the oddest statements I've heard in regards to guns.

I look forward to hearing more from you, particularly about this subject!

Well his reasoning (tainted with too much whatever he was drinking) was that he had seen all too much in his life in the military ref how women are used and abused and often unprepared to defend themselves. The fact he had 4 daugthers seemed to enter into it as nothing more than a father looking out for his "girls".. mine (husband) taught ours how to shoot when they were old enough to hold a BBQ rifle and aim at a piece of plywood with a balloon on it for starters... once they mastered that... it was onto the range and 22's and then up the line from there.

He was an odd bird, bad pun since he was a bird Col., in that he'd get into a discussion or explanation and then clam up and change the subject.. don't know if wiffee came into his office or what.. but he was like that for years, with my friend as well she advised.

I've been up way to late here, you guys are a bad influence on me on work days:D n'ight all.. catch you latar...

:yh_flower :yh_flower :yh_hugs :-6 [ hi, and welcome, you remind me of myself, don't take my kindness for weakness. I live in a very nice house down the Jersey Shore, it's on the water also. We love it here, feels like we're on vacation all year. Ever think of moving to the shore area?

Typical night around here.. worked until late and then it was too late to log

on... first chance I've had to get here today as well, think its gonna be another

long night.

Funny you should post that comment Casey... people often take my kindness for weakness and then make the move to take advantage.. boy do they get a surprise. Wish I could say its just "human nature" to take advantage but that's not true, I don't and most of the people I call "friends" would not think of doing that to others, so it must be the other side of the mirror, the user's side !

I've only been east briefly many years back... little time in DC and then a stop over flight in NYC heading to Scandanavia... my husband's been to Jersey for

business many times and said the shore is nice. But we both have this "inner thing" for the north and west... something keeps pulling us that way and once we

can be out of here we'll use the lake house in MN as home base and work our way through some of the western states and see if there is anything that meets our fancy.

Gonna check on some of the post replies and then I have to get back to work here.. by tomorrow and Satuday I'll have some time to kick back and relax a little and read 'n post with you all. Keep a seat there for me and a ready bottle

of scotch and I'll be back around as soon as I can catch up in my officer here a tad.

Cheers...:yh_bigsmi
