I think we could have guessed without the ants - traffic crossings slow traffic. Going over or under is quicker than trying to go through. Build three-dimensional crossovers and nobody ever need stop. Nobody stopping means nobody needing to slow down. Steady speeds allow optimal throughput. Who needs ants?
