Lobster any one???

Can any one please give me some advice????

Last night, Mr Oscar and myself had lobster for dinner. (Sorry redglitter).

One usually serves up one's dinner with the use of kitchen utensils. As usual, last night Mr Oscar ended up fetching a hammer, pliers and a chisel from the shed.

Surely, there has to be a simpler way of dressing and serving a lobster??? :thinking::thinking::thinking:

I am not joking folks. For one, it is not romantic sharing a hammer over the table and two, Mr Oscar gets in such a temper, we end up with shell every where.

Anyone got any advice please?

And don't say, have a burger instead,

Has anyone actually offered any serious advice to oscar?

She's probably sat at the table next to her hubbies toolbox (no pun intended) as we speak.:wah:

Serious advice for how to eat lobster-you can use a nutcracker or hammer, but it is not necessary. A nice regular knife from your cutlery drawer, turn it over, and use the heavy side to gently crack open the claws. You can use scissors to open up the body, if you want it in one large piece, which you usually do.

When eating crabs, always use the knife, you never need another utensil. (or you just need to practice at it, works great)

The utensil Abbey and Oscar for the Lobster is what chezzie said....its called a nutcracker and can be bought from the hardware store or anywhere you buy kitchen utensils.......and I love Lobster :-4;)

Thankyou Abbey but Mr oscar's toolbox is another thread entirely!! :wah:

Mr Oscar doesn't have a toolbox as such, he has a large shed full of things that i don't understand and don't want to. He goes to this shed regually and when i ask him why he's going there, he says 'To do stuff'.

In revenge, when i tell him I'm going to the shops, he ask's what i am intending on buying, so i say 'just stuff'. :sneaky::sneaky:

Thankyou all for your advice. You've been brilliant and i think i am safe from flying shell at further meals when Mr Oscar is bashing the living daylights out of his dinner with a lump hammer.

Thanks for your advice ..... Now, does any one know of any sauces for Lobster and crab that doesn't over power the flavour????

Oh and Scallops as well.... Yum :-4:-4

Hmmm maybe I should be ashamed to admit it, but I've never had lobster or crab. Used to work in fishing industry too, and now I live in the heart of a fishing village. :o:o

Cornwall has got to be the best for fishing and I've had the best shellfish ever down there.

I went on a deep sea fish off the coast of Cornwall years ago at night. It was so rough, they strapped you to the side of the boat. It frightened the living daylights out of me and i've never done it since.

I keep trying it over and over again..just dont get it.

My husband loves it. I've watched him discustingly crack the shell and dip into garlic butter, chew it's succulent chewy, smelly, textured flesh and make grunting noises....

...sorry about that...lol

In fact, for our first date he thought he'd surprise me and take me to Red Lobster.

It was such a nice gesture...

I had catfish.

Lucky that was red lobster and not red glitter :-3

I was lucky enough to be treated recently at a well known italian resturant where the scallops are wonderfull. The last time, i had a mixed grilled fish platter. There was all sorts of fish but one was really meaty and i was horrified to learn that i had eaten shark. I still feel guilty about it. :(:(

Yikes, you know they do make special more delicate crackers to use on lobster and also just the right size picks to get out the meat. Or, and I like this method, on Cape Cod I buy them cooked and cracked so there is little to mess with.

Thanks Quinn, I'll have a look next time i'm down the Town to see if any of the stores have Lobster crackers and picks. They must exist here as we do sell a lot of Lobster in Britain... Crab as well. :-4

A hammer! I've heard of people doing that, but totally not necessary. A nutcracker or large knife will do.

To each their own Chons...I use the nutcracker myself & a little lobster fork and for crabs I also use the nutcracker but I have found that when you take the claw apart on the end you can use part of it to pick out the meat...great, now I'm hungry for seafood:wah:
