Sorry but the colour of a persons skin doesn't determine how good they will be at their job. Their race or colour is immaterial in my opinion.

I agree Chezz, infact we have black and asian members M.P.'s here. We certainly vote them in purely on the policie's.
However, what the article is suggesting is that America, especially in the deep South has had many years of anti-black politics, and is this likely to affect the voting?

the colour of their skin should not bother any of you in the states unless your racist of course.

I think who the American people vote for will be president, we have been ready for a change for a long time. Racial background has no bearing in the matter, it wouldn't have mattered if they were Hispanic, Asian or any other ethnic background.

I totally agree Odie, but do you think others in America will think like us when voting?

I think it's all a bit of propaganda by the world's press anyway. If McCain gets in, you'll have them say America won't vote for a black President.
I think they like all that sort of thing.
If he gets in, i trust it will be on his own merits.
Not sure i like the other article in my paper saying Al-Quaeda has asked America to vote McCain.
:(

Win or loose, the fact that Obama got the nomination says much for the growing tolerance of Americans. It would never ever have happened 25 years ago.

Tolerance ???
How do you tolerate or not tolerate skin ?
How do you "get ready" for an African American leader ?
Is it different than preparing for a white (pink) leader ?
What an odd question.

It wasn't a question, it was a statement. Racial tolerance today as opposed to Pre-Civil Rights. It's laughable, but with many it's just not SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE to be INTOLERANT (racist)

I think like Lon says, its says a lot about the tolerance of ordinary Americans that here you have a black man running for what is still a majority white country, and will probably win if the polls are to be believed. It just wouldn't happen in any European country that I know of. Though we do have black and asian politicians and leaders in various fields. also don't imagine that the Chinese or the Arabs will be making a black person leader (in this century anyway). So I think that whatever the outcome of the election, it shows that not everything is bad about America at the moment, in fact there is an awful lot to be hopeful about. So credit where credit is due.

The reason i put this thread on was due to America being seen by the world as intolerant of black. Too many still think of KKK and The civil rights marches in the Deep South.
I suppose what the newspaper is asking, is if the view of the American people is fair??? and if, there was an issue with black from the 1960's, has America changed enough that they can vote a black President purely on his own merits, as quite rightly said galbally, we have our share of black and asian M.P.'s who were voted in fairly by merit.

Donkeys are the official "mascot" of the democratic party. The elephant represents the republican party.
Honkeys are another term for white people.

And "white" doesnt rhyme with "donkey" either, so it wouldnt have been funny.
