Will there be BREAD LINES???
Do you feel we are heading for another depression?? Recession, we have been in recessions before. But NOT as bad as now. in the last 50 years anyway. i can remember in the midwest when a lot of the steel mills went belly up. also the oil bust in the early 80's. This is a world wide true crises.

Bread lines aren't so bad, they tend to stay put but them soup lines run all over the place.

Will there be BREAD LINES???
Not bad yet, but it will be a tight Christmas
Will there be BREAD LINES???
Bread lines aren't just old-fashioned, they're not a very effective way of delivering help unless bread production's practically at a standstill. What works are soup kitchens. Yes, I'm sure there'll be a lot more of those. Whether people get to see them unless they need them's another matter.

Well if the stores can't get products - there will be lines for food
and selected area's go to line on certain days.
I'd stock up on what you can.
Our Food Bank's are closing - looks like every one is cutting back

my parents were kids during the depression. mom said she had plenty to eat. living on a farm. but no shoes. dad was a city kid. his parents were raising 5 of their own. Plus 9 other children. Their mother's sister's kids. It was really hard on them. My hubby and i are really cutting back. I have little wants. so it will not be easy. But we are from stock that were survivors.

I think people are far too enterprising these days. I see home businesses starting and growing instead of the money men ruling everything.
Any party looking to win elections right now would well be advised to help the new businessman. We'd then see natural new growth not just from the stock market.
This is an ideal time to go it alone,

There will be people out there who will find it far easier to sign on the benifit system by then over stretching resources more than they are overstretched now. It's a vicious circle.
Just as consolidation loan companie's will be churning out more packages just leaving people with false money. They will then turn to more plastic to keep them selves in the lifestyle they want and the whole thing will start up again.
There was a lady in the paper today who was dragged before the magistrates and fined £5,000 for selling her fruit in pounds rather than kilo's. It is this persecution that shows government do not want the individual to be self sufficiant.
They need to consider and help start up companie's but they won't.

Yes, it's a "recession" when you get laid off, & a "depression" when I get laid off! IMO, I'm afraid that when things get really bad shortly, today's generation is not like the generation back 50 to 60 years ago. Having said that, back then, most people had pride & honor, & would never consider "helping themselves" by taking what they wanted, from those that had it! Today's society (doesn't wait for anything they want it now) is already plaged with crime, & burgularies! One can only begin to imagine just how bad it will become when an out of work, homeless, hungry man needs to get at least food for his starving family! Sorry to say, foresee much gloom & doom ahead! :-3 I pray I'm wrong!!!

Most of the contractors are being put off.
Interesting times ahead .

Now look, it is at times like this that the ability to not lose ones head when all around are losing theirs is a most useful quality. I have no doubt that indeed, we are in for some profoundly difficult economic times, but its unlikely you will die or starve or be shot down in the street by a rampaging mob (well probably not). We will all simply have to adjust ourselves to a new situation, and one (as the mayor of Hiroshima said) "not necessarily to our advantage".
It is going to be a little bit frightening over the next period I would imagine, as economic panics on this scale are worrying things and something none of us have experienced before, still, life will go on no doubt. Such things have happened before, and they will happen again, how we respond to the one in our time is a simply a series of choices we have yet to make. People in the West have been making very bad collective choices for a long time, its imperative that as life gets serious once again, that peoples responses become more measured and serious accordingly.

Priorities, that's what we need. Do you know any really ancient people Galbally? Maybe in the darkest corner of the local sibín under the lowest bit of the ceiling? Ask them if they remember how to make a coffee substitute out of roasted acorns and put up a post here on how they did it, it's details like that which'll come in most useful of all.

I think it won't be easy, but won't be too bad.
We have a new president on the way and if he wants to get elected to a second term...he will have to figure out a way to stabilize things. I am glad this did not happen three or four years ago.
I wish they would use the 700B of taxpayer money to maybe buy up the vacant houses at low prices, and then sell them to people who can come up with the payment....something like that. I hope banksters don't end up with that money.
They will figure out a way because they have to.

Ah sure, why would there be lines for bread when you can shop on line?
Times have changed, the definition of a ‘depression’ these days means that before you go and buy something, you may actually need to have money.
We are so use to having whatever we want, whenever we want, and if you don’t have the money¦ no problem¦ ‘no money down, credit available, no payments until 2010¦’
When my parents bought their house, it was a few years before they could start getting furniture for it, they had to save first then buy stuff. We just need to re-adjust our expectations, remember that money does not grow on trees, and cut up those feck’n credit cards that charge you 18% interest on outstanding balances.
The ones who will be impacted by this downturn will be the ones who were living lifestyles that they could not afford.

It's o'k southern Yankee, the panic is over.
That wonderfull scotsman Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister has come up with the answers.
He's sorted the UK's financial problems out this morning and has got 15 EU countries asking for his advice so they can follow the same plan.
Just as soon as he can translate the agreement into words of no more than 3 letters, he will send it to George Bush.

Just like our fine upstanding politicians, we do what we can to ease the pain of others in suffering.
I will inform the passport office that there is likely to be a rush on UK citizenship from the US cos you've only got chicken wire keeping them Mexicans out. i agree with you with that. My Grand parents( father's parents) were immigrants from Poland. That did not get a FREE PASS. They had to Follow the rules. The rules?? What rules?? Is the thought of now a days:mad:

Exactly. We had a poll recently to ask the UK if they prefered to be called British or English.
35% said British
35% said English - and
30% said Romanian.
I'm on our housing commitee and i just see them keep rolling in. It seems if your name begins with Ali or ends in ov, your in.
I have to be careful now or i will have a visit from a member of The British Police Constabulary to caution me for being unfunny and racist.
