Today I heard on the news that one of the big banks is going to withdraw the free 'Piggie banks' they hand out to encurage kids to save .....why?.......because it offends Muslims.

No 'Ba ba Black sheep' ....no 'Snow white and the seven dwarfs'....etc etc.

The worlds gone MAD ! PC-orama !!!!

If you don't like piggie banks don't buy them...if you don't llike the old nursery rhymes don't sing them...if you don't want to watch the seven dwarfs...don't buy a ticket !!

That ridiculeous, when people come to live in our countries the should accept our traditions and things that are part of our culture. I don't notice other countries changing there cultural norms and traditions to suit us. They make a choice to come and live in our countries and if the're refugees they should be glad of a safe place to live, we shouldn't have to tip toe around our own countries for fear of offending any one with our traditions and culture.

PC really has gone to far, and I don't believe for one second that Piggy's "offend" muslims, they just do not eat pork. Some bleeding heart higher up just saw this as a way to stir up controversy in my opinion.

Well the thing is they shouldn't eat pork, but when we lived in Turkey some of our neighbours actually used to catch wild pig and secretly cook it, they told us it was the best meat around SHHHH;)

No piggy banks! What a joke, we have the kids college money in one right upstairs, and it's going to stay there, until they get out of college! Then it's mine, for a trip to Tahiti!

Well.. I could have only hoped you were joking.. but get ready for it. Wehave had PC movements on this side of the pond for years. It is truely saddening to see the minorty deciding what we should or shouldn't say, think, write about.. etc. Unfortunately, is it instances like this that will trigger an eventual backlash. I really do think that anyone that decides that something is offensive on a personal or religious basis and attempts to create laws banning it risks creating a new problem.. sigh..

Jumping in here with a story about one of my hangouts here on the web.

I frequent a forum that is....er...umm...."risque", to say the least. One of the rules there is no threads about religion or politics. The place is very light-hearted, no serious discussions of any type.

Just like here, members there have sig lines where they display other forums, links to cool stuff, pictures of their bikes; a whole variety of things. One of the members has always carried a link to his website, where he promotes atheism, gay rights, and things like that. Needless to say, I checked out his site once, and since I disagree with 98% of his material, I didn't go back. I see the link in his sig line every day, and I hang out with him, chatting and goofing around with him in that forum all the time. No big deal.

Yestreday, a female member there pointed out his sig line and complained about it, because it uses the word "atheist" in it, which she perceived as offensive, because she does believe in prayer. It was brought out in public, and hashed over by mods in public, and ordered to be removed, in public. So, I publicly stated my distaste in the actions of administration asking him to remove it, when it had been there for so long without a problem. I noted how other member have pictures of things like marijuana, witches, pagan holidays, (especially with Halloween coming up) and other potentially offensive things. Why was this member required to change his sig line because of offending one person? Why wasn't the entire thread deleted, since I could have found her reference to prayer offensive?? Why aren't the "pagan" sigs being jumped on?

This is the huge problem I see happening, and it's happening everywhere. There will come a time when here, in America of all places, we won't be able to comment on a holiday or religion, express a belief, or even a disbelief, agree with or disagree with any damn thing, just for fear of offending some culture or some religious group somewhere. Free speech is going to be a thing of the past, folks, you can bank on it.

Funny thing, I've read the Constitution and other documents pertaining to our freedoms and liberties, and I have never come across a single one that guarantees anyone being kept "safe" from being offended. I am sick to death of this attitiude. I thought Americans were made up of tougher stuff than this.

Sincerely,

Disillusioned, and Highly Annoyed

Something similar was in the Leicester local news years ago - 1994 I think, just before I moved to Lincoln.

There was some woman in the Nedham street (Highfields) area of Leicester (an area with a very high Muslim population) who collected porcelain pigs. She had some in the front windowsill of her house and the local Muslims (her house was also pretty close to the local Muslim school) kicked off about it and she was forced to remove the pigs from her window.

Crazy!
