'Season is certainly not over,' hurricane center chief says

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- Tropical Storm Wilma stalled over the warm waters of the northwestern Caribbean early Tuesday, but forecasters warned that it could soon strengthen into a hurricane before potentially menacing the U.S. Gulf Coast this weekend.
Wilma entered the history books Monday, becoming the Atlantic hurricane season's 21st named storm before dawn, tying the record set in 1933 and exhausting the list of storm names....it seems this one is expected to be a cat 3 when it gets in the gulf...it's been a hard 'cane season, and isn't over until nov. 30.

These sequence of hurricanes seem to have gone on for ever. I feel so sorry for all those people having to cope with this hurricane season. LC may I ask when hurricane season begins usually??

So about half the year, can be considered to be hurricane season, that's really rough. It must be so difficult trying to just manage and adapt to the aftermath of one high level hurricane, let alone having another hit a few weeks later.

This would be the third to hit the gulf coast in about 2 months time. We have friends in Ft Myers. I'm praying for all of you LC! My father's in Biloxi, MS.

BTW, how do they come up with hurricane names?they decide on the names at the outset of each season...they don't use x, y, z, and q i think...in any case, the next ones will be greek alphabet since wilma is the last on list for this year.

That's horrible news, that's the last thing all the people on the coast needed. My thoughts are with everyone being affected by this, it must be so hard for them all.

Not to make light of this potentially dangerous storm, LC, but when I see the title of your thread, all I see is Wilma Flintstone going after Fred with a frying pan.

well i better get some gas. and water. stash my documents and get some cash. there are now pet-allowed shelters, so people won't refuse to evacuate because of their animals. that's a good thing.

people are heeding evac orders in keys. (16:51 GMT), October 20, 2005
