Hey all yep another thought process of mine....

ok how does everyone celebrate your birthday. How do you like to celebrate it, and how do you dislike to celebrate it.

My thoughts, if it is supposed to be your day, should folks not honor your wish and do things your way??? I ask this because so many folks think ooooo it is so and so's birthday lets throw a party, well I know of people who despise this, and would rather crawl in a hole than have a party. So I am just wondering about this silly tradition and why people won't let some folks just celebrate quietly and have the day their way???

Mine's on Christmas Day and so it is always a family day which is lovely.

I would hate it if someone arranged a "surprise" party for me but it's not very likely because my family know how I feel and friends are too busy celebrating Christmas to consider it. Phew!

my favorite birthday observation was always simply to have a day off work to do as i wish, go fishing, read, beach, diving, whatever the spirit moved me to do. a day of peace and quiet! :)

I usually forget my birthday just as I don't think of anyone else's. But for our wedding anniversary, we always have pizza and drink beer from champaigne flutes. It's the best we could afford the first few years, and it's nice to commemorate our roots that way. 20 years come November!

Well...it is my 59th birthday in a couple of weeks time.....for the first time ever I have booked a days holiday as it is on a Wednesday. I'm going to have a mellow day and then go for a meal with my friend from work in the evening. I suspect I'll see my kids some time during the day. NOW...I'm also going to treat myself to a....TATOO....a very small one...and I need your help in deciding where to have it done......I thought ankle...ideas please....;)

Like others, a surprise party would be be a nightmare, but a surprise family meal would be grand. :)

BRAVOOOOO on the Tattoo wahoooo what a lovely treat hehehehe oooo sorry

I take it you have an idea then, that is good. I hope it is not tooo teeeny anyway locations huh

Ankle is always nice, as is on your calf. Belly NO, Breasts NO, Love handle area NO, Shoulder is ok, but so.... routine, Back anywhere is nice but you never get to see it and can forget about it.

Guess you need to ask, is this tattoo just for me? or Do I want just anybody to see it. If only for you, put it where you can easily hide it with clothing. Thigh is another nice place. If you are wanting to show the world, yes to ankle, and shoulder if your not worried about "oh everybody does that one" And likely no to your arm anywhere as that still is not 100% acceptable in mainstream society on females.

I like to make sure the X-Mas tree is down - 12/29. I like to have the day off and go out to dinner. The past 3 years though I do a different kind of celebrating.....I get a mammogram done. NO - it wasn't planned it's just when I got diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago and now because of insurance I've had it done on my birthday - just a coincidence thing - but I consider a clear reading a great present so I ask for it on that day now. Yes, I am a little warped.

Well I've definitely decided on ANKLE. The design I want is a humming bird or a delicate flower of some kind.(lotus flower ?) I've been searching the web for ages...tattoo sites and art sites.....I can se ut's going to take me hours to find something suitable.

Get your idea even if it is 2 parts and take them to the tattoo shop, generally those folks are great artists and let them build it for you. Tell them how you see it. They are awesome. That is how I did both of mine. My pair of dragonflies are designed from a little internet icon I found and when I printed it, it was no larger than a penny. The tattoo artist made them gorgeous.

My family and our close friends just go out for dinner. Then we come home and eat cake. It's nothing special.

When I turned 40 I planned to have a birthday party, but it wasn't possible, so I asked my then husband to take me out he grumbled so much about it , so then the kids started grumbling too, it was an awful day and I belived then that he didn't love me at all, I felt so unloved.

When I turned 42 I was back in OZ so I had my big 40th party, it was so good. I have a 40th every year now. I will keep having 40ths till I turn 50 It does confuse people though but thats ok It's always a good party . :D

I don't really have any traditions. I've lived at least a couple of hours drive from my folks for over 10 yrs, so unless my birthday is on a weekend, I rarely see them. But we usually try to get together (my folks, my brother and his family) sometime around our birthdays.

This year was a very quiet one for me. My hubby had already moved, so I didn't even see him! But he'd flown my mum down, so I got to spend a day with her which was wonderful.

Last year, my hubby had a surprise party for me. Just a dozen or so friends at a restaurant - so that was a really nice type of surprise party.

For my 25th I had a reasonably large bash - cocktail party.... very messy!

An next year's the big 30, so that will probably a big-ish one!

But you're right Minks, it's YOUR day, so you should be able to do whatever you want. I'm lucky, coz that's pretty much what we do. We chat about what we want to do. And then whether it's a quiet one, or a big party, we go ahead and set it up....
