Last week a doctor put in an order for the police to pick up one of his patients on a mental incompetancy order. He NEGLECTED to tell the police the man said he had just killed 2 people (a 17 year old HS senior and a 22 year old father of a 2 week old). The man gunned down the two 22 year veterans from behind a bush. He went on to kill another 52 year old man before being apprehended 2 hours later. I say the doc should have said something to the police. I am both irate and very sad we are going to bury 3 more people because of this privilage.

THANX NV:

You are SOO right about this doctor if it is true that he did not mention that his client (Hyde) had said to him that he had killed 2 people.

If this is true then this doctor needs to be held accountable too. Hyde was hiding in the bushes waiting for these veterans and ambushed them.......

If the doctor had told them the FULL story the ABQ police would have sent out the BIG guns.......

I am going to be adding to this sad story with info obout these officers and others killed by this for-ggin monster........

Oh yah the insanity plea has ALREADY been laid out by his lawyers..........

Albuquerque police said late Monday morning that ballistics and criminalistics testing have tied John Hyde, accused of killing four men on Thursday, to a fifth homicide.

According to officials, evidence found at the scene of all five homicides came from an extremely rare Webley revolver. They say the 45-caliber pistol dates back to the 1918s.

Officials say Hyde has most recently been implicated in the murder of Department of Transportation employee Ben Lopez at around 6:30 Thursday morning at a DOT facility on West Central Avenue.

Hyde is also implicated un the shooting deaths of David Fisher and Garrett Iverson at a southeast Albuquerque motorcycle shop early Thursday evening. Those deaths occurred before police say he gunned down two police officers later that night.

Officers Michael King and Richard Smith were executing an order to investigate Hyde’s physical and mental condition at an apartment near Ash and Gold when authorities say Hyde opened fire on the two men. Both were transported to University of New Mexico Hospital where they died of their injuries. Neither officer was aware of any connection with the day’s three prior shooting deaths.

King and Smith’s murders set off a dragnet that at one time saw the area from Central Ave. to Avenida Cesar Chavez and Interstate 25 to University Blvd. closed. Hyde was arrested near Kathryn and Louisiana shortly after midnight Thursday.

Hyde was arraigned Saturday for the murders if the two police officers and is being held without bond.

Two Albuquerque Officers Fatally Shot

Saturday August 20, 2005 1:31 AM

By FELICIA FONSECA

Associated Press Writer

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A man who fatally shot two Albuquerque police officers picking him up for a mental health evaluation could be linked to as many as three other slayings that same day, authorities said Friday.

John Hyde, 48, was arrested about two hours after the shootings Thursday near downtown Albuquerque.

``A monster is behind bars,'' said Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez. ``He is never coming out. This is a day we'll never ever forget in this community.''

Choking back tears at a news conference, Police Chief Ray Schultz identified the slain officers as Michael King, 50, and Richard Smith, 47, both veterans with 20 years' experience and sons of retired Albuquerque policemen.

Their deaths were among five killings in Albuquerque on Thursday. A state Department of Transportation worker was shot to death at his job site early in the day, and two men were found dead at a motorcycle shop about 5 p.m. The identities were not released.

Schultz said the crimes might all be linked to Hyde.

``We're not positively sure these crimes are related, but we are reasonably sure they are,'' he said. Hyde was not cooperating with investigators, he said.

The police chief said the sequence of events was not yet clear, but it started with a routine call for a doctor-ordered exam. At some point, Smith and Hyde exchanged fire.

``It seemed like a gunfight,'' said Maren Dey, who lives near the shooting scene. ``It got really intense really fast.'' Gov. Bill Richardson ordered flags to be flown at half-staff through Saturday to honor the slain officers.

Both officers down were 2nd generation cops with children and both just recently retired, then went back to what they loved doing...a difficult job but with day to day rewards.

The scum J. Hyde was the subject who cold blooded murdered the 2 employees at the 'new' motorcycle shop. One had punched in a 'robbery in progress' so be that the cause for having a need to kill for a motorcycle or so-called 'insanity' is mute. He is also suspect for recently murdering a DOT officer as well.

2 officers responded to a call for Hyde's agressive actions at a clinic..Hyde split on the (stolen) bike and was later circled in during a close.

Thing is.........................

Hyde goes to prison and instantly becomes a most favored Celeb for being a cop killer...the highest esteem of honor among the scum.

Had he been a 'short eyes' (child molestor/killer) he would then be the lowest of all scum...even to the scum's standards.

So...for Hyde, it should be the death sentence and as soon as possible and what will be sought in due process, time.

Too bad and a damn shame Hyde wasn't shot dead at the scene. All the officers would had appreciated their metal in his head if not for their having to what they had to for PC sake.

Personally, I'd like to see that $2mil no squat bail dropped to $5.00 and let him post out....then he'd be fair game within hours, a day or two at most

It is so sad; their death affects all of us! Without our police force there would be chaos in our cities. I am grateful we have them. I feel for the families and the Albuquerque police department great lost.

I hope John Hyde’s insanity plea is overturned if that’s what he’s going to stand on. He knew what he was doing;

Man Charged In Deaths Of 2 Policemen, 2 Motorcyclists

Friday Called 'One Of The Saddest Days' In Department History

Jen Boyles, Staff Writer

UPDATED: 8:04 am MDT August 22, 2005

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Police have taken a man into custody in connection with the fatal shootings of two Albuquerque police officers Thursday night.

John Hyde, 48, of Albuquerque, is being held on a $5 million cash bond in connection with the deaths of Officers Mike King, 50, and Richard Smith, 47.

Hyde has been booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. Police said he may be responsible for as many as five murders in the Albuquerque area this week, including the killing of a state worker and two men at an Albuquerque motorcycle shop Thursday.

"APD detectives were able to quickly link this crime to another homicide of a Department of Transportation worker that occurred earlier in the day Thursday," said Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz. "We didn't know that at the time of the original call."

State Department of Transportation worker Ben Lopez was shot to death at his job site early in the day. Later, 17-year-old David Fisher and 26-year-old Garrett Iversen were found dead at a motorcycle shop.

Hyde has been charged in the officers' deaths and the deaths at River Valley Motorcycles.

Officers were dispatched to 1521 Gold SE after 10 p.m. on Thursday on a simple call -- to pick up a man on a mental health evaluation order.

Schultz said shots were fired, and both officers suffered fatal wounds.

Schultz, in a news conference Friday, said the deaths of the officers marked "one of the saddest days in the history of the Albuquerque Police Department." He said they had each served the city for more than 20 years.

"When they got to the scene, they didn't know there was a monster there waiting for them, who didn't care about the job they were doing. He took their lives in a cowardly fashion," Schultz said.

Fighting back tears, Schultz also said informing King's and Smith's families about the murders was the toughest thing he's ever had to do.

"The men and women of the Albuquerque Police Department are a tight family, and the Albuquerque community has suffered a tremendous loss," Schultz said.

An arrest warrant showed Hyde indicated to police that he was responsible for the officer shootings.

Keith Hensly, who lives in the area where the shooting took place, said he was about to go to bed when he heard gunfire.

"I heard a couple of shots in rapid succession. I knew immediately it was a gunshot -- it was not fireworks," said Hensly.

Hensly said the sound of gunfire is nothing new to his neighborhood.

The chief also asks for the public's help in dealing with the loss: "If you see an officer, wave at them today. Smile at them. We're all grieving."

The City Reacts

For many people who live in Albuquerque, the news of the deaths was difficult to hear.

Gov. Bill Richardson has ordered flags to half-staff in honor of the officers.

Mayor Martin Chavez said he has "never been prouder of APD than in the last 24 hours. We're going to put this monster behind bars -- and he's never, ever coming out."

Both men worked at the police substation in the southeast part of the city, and many citizens stopped by to pay their respects and offer thanks for the work all police officers do in their community.

"I just feel like if it wasn't for the police department, what would we have?" one mourner said.

Goldie Saylor lives nearby. She and many others have dropped off flowers, food and cards offering their condolences.

Saylor has a soft heart for law enforcement.

Her husband was murdered 20 years ago.

She said the police were there for her, and now it's her turn to return the support.

"I think people should open up their hearts and be there for them," she said.

Action 7 News checked some records, and added it all up: There have been at least 15 violent deaths so far this month in the Albuquerque metro area.

The doctor does... that's why, IF it happened that way, he should be charged at least for criminal negligence!

This man has gone to court. The court system has remanded him to the state mental facility for evaluation. His doctor - IS UNDER INVESTIGATION - for not telling the police the man "could" be violent. This still rankles the hair on the back of my neck. I am sure the doc is going to be sued in civil court. I hope to hell he loses. There has been so much press here from the District Attorneys's office saying he will be in psyco ward for the rest of his life. If he is proved competent - NM will sentence him to death. It was a great lose for our city - 5 people dead - 5 people with loving spouses, children, parents, and grandchildren. The number of victims grows so exponentially in this lose. Sorry - the psychos should NOT be at large.
