Aug. 8 is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night

This evening of festivities has incited a movement to launch Cook The Zucchini That You Will Later Put Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Day, since at last report no one was placing zucchini onto any neighboring porches on this date’s evening. Last year, in fact, the integrity of this day was blemished when at least 405 people were arrested for displaying lewd behavior with their zucchini in public. That is illegal in 34 states.

It's a little late, but I found a bag of squash on the front gate today. I wonder if it's related. :sneaky: :wah:

We put it into mailboxes and hang it on doorknobs here! Since I live in a rural area EVERYONE has some zucchini to give!

I remember working on a farm. We sold corn and we'd try to give away zucchini free with a dozen ears of corn. No one would take it so we'd sneak it into the bags, or I'd sidle up to the person's car in my bikini in a very flirtatious manner and then I'd toss it in before they could say anything!

I wonder why people grow it if they're not going to eat so much of it.

My problem as a youngster was a father who thought A. Bigger is Better

and B.Grow Enough to Feed Everybody. Most people plant 3 or 4 zucchini

plants, Dad would have like TWENTY-FIVE zucchini plants. And Mom

wasn't the best cook in the world, either! Dad would bring her these HUGE

zukes (10-15 pounders, easy!) and she'd boil the heck out of 'em 'till they

turned into watery, seedy messes. Maybe throw some onions and tomato

sauce over it. YUCK I hated zucchini as a kid.

The one good thing in later years was Dad found out about "Senior Gleaners"

in his area and every week he'd pick a big box of all kinds of veggies and

take it to them and they loved to see him coming. Of course, Dad's not a

senior, no way. That's those OTHER people. ;) And I think I finally, through

dint of much effort, convinced him to pick SMALL ones.

I love zucchini now, grate it in my scrambled eggs, slice it with a little oil

and garlic salt and grill it... lots of things. And I only have a few plants

and pick small. Neat, especially when you see it's a buck a pound at the

grocery store!!

My name is Valerie, that is my treatise on the zucchini.

Thank you very much!
