Almost three weeks ago since the deadly attacks on London, the cities tourism chiefs are saying ''Business as usual,'' but is it? A dramatic reduction in the number of people bringing children to London has been reported. They have also cut a number of flights and hotel bookings from abroad since the July 7 bombings and the incidents again this week.Other European tourism caps are bracing themselves for what are now almost inevitable attacks. In Milan and Rome, the metro systems were reported to be emptier than normal this week, following a warning from the Italian interior minister that ''terrorism is about to knock on Italy's door.''
Fear is growing that Italy will be next in to suffer an attack, following an ultimatium from al-Qa'ida-linked group to withdraw its 3,000 troops from Iraq.A massive anti-terror sweep has now been launched across the country.Security at museums and galleries is now at unprecedented levels.
Army and Police patrols with sniffer dogs are now the norm on public transport and around our cities.
Denmark, whose name was also included alongside other ''infidel'' states supporting the United States against the war on Iraq, Poland, Holland and last, but not least Southern Ireland where american forces land to refuel on their way to Iraq.
Canada, growing fears Canadians will face at al-Qa'ida fury sooner or later for troops in Afghanistan. Police presence in major cities increased. We know these madmen will target cinemas, sports complex, public transports, airports, shopping malls and wherever you and I would go with our families and friends to enjoy a holiday.

I can't really afford to go abroad on holiday and i am apprehensive at going on my own anyway. soooo...I normally spend my time off going out for the day as there are many places of interest within a 2 hour drive. I have spent short breaks in Cornwall and at Ironbridge gorge and really enjoyed myself. There are so many beautiful places in the UK I have never been to, visiting them all would take several years I fear.
If I was able to travel abroad I don't think the terrorist threat would really put me off unless there were regular occurences of bombings etc in one particular area. I have NO problems going to London.:-6
I would be interested to hear of any experiences that female single holiday makers have had as I really want to do something special next year...my last year before I retire.

I don't like heat. At all. I'm taking a mini-vacation to Wisconsin this weekend and I'm hoping it'll be delightfully cool.

My hubby and I will be going up to the Smoky Mountains sometime this autumn. The countryside is just gorgeous. We usually stay at Maggie Valley or Cherokee, North Carolina and go over the mountains to Gatlingburg, Tennesse.

My ideallic destination would have to be the Greek Isles or the Maldives. Think they'd be gorgeous. Lazing on the beach, hiring a yacht......
As for the terrorist issue, I don't think you can let it affect your travels. My hubby & I travelled to Thailand a month after 9/11. Many people told us not to go, but we still decided to - we felt that if we changed our plans because, then they win. Of course, you have to have a little bit of common sense - I certainly wouldn't by flying into Iraq!!

New Zealand is fabulous. I had my best ever holiday there in 2002 (goes misty-eyed with nostalgia). The mountains! The sea! Vomiting with sea-sickness at 6am whilst out whale-watching!
Seriously, it's a wonderful and very beautiful place. I thought Wellington was a bit weird but it turned out my travelling companion and I had been walking around the red light district there for 2 hours without realising it (the red lights should have given it away) and had got the wrong impression. I still think Auckland beats it hands down though.
Queenstown, South Island, is just the best place, whether you like action sports, stunning scenery, Lord of the Rings memorabilia, or sitting in a restaurant on the lake and eating huge Kiwi breakfasts. I loved it.

A guy at work goes gold 'prospecting' in Sweden every year, he's also been on holiday to the Arctic.
I quite fancy a holiday in Iceland...Whale watching, Horse riding, bathing in the Blue lagoon (A modern man made leisure facility, created by a reservoir of naturally heated geothermal and naturally healing waters.)
