I like that i live on the river, and the vibration of the freighters shake our townhouse, and in the fog at 2:00 am, you can hear the fog horns.

I like the beauty of the desert. I live in the high desert (5,000 ft above sea). I do not like the summer heat and I like the mild winters. The stark beauty of the plant life - having to survive on 4" of water a year. There are times when it rains and you see plants you haven't seen in 5 years - what resilience life has affects me. I also like the bunny that comes and eats my garden :-5

The lakes, more than 12,000 of them. I live on one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in the state.
The fall colors
Winter, to me its bliss, magical and fun fun fun
The people. The people here are magnificent, just unbelievable the kindness I see every day.
The wildlife, deer everywhere, bear, moose, elk
I love my home

And I agree with you lc
Florida SUCKS !!!
Its like living in hell !
If I could have lived right on the gulf that might be different but 2 steps in and its stripmalls and flat scrub brush.
Horrible state all in all.

So, since you've been so vague, I would guess, (total shot in the dark here) that you DON'T like Florida??! :yh_wink
I like the fact that it's about 45 minutes to the country from where I am. I like living near Selfridge ANG and seeing the fighter jets fly over occasionally. I like being 10 minutes from the lake. Jefferson Avenue runs right along the east side of the state and riding that strip and seeing the mansions on one side and the lake on the other is pretty darn cool.
I hate the winter here, though. Un-ending, eternal, blood-freezing, eyeball-chilling, brain-numbing cold for months on end. HATE IT!!!!

;)that's the truth! but i remember it before all the tourists and other crap. and when the reef was thriving with fish. 600 pound groupers! hurricane God is going to restore it to its natural beauty one day. and i hope it takes a direct hit on the ocean reef club, hideout for corporate criminals and greedy developers who destroyed a millenium worth of mangrove.

I like the location of our home. It's not really in the country and not in the city either, yet I can walk to town in less than 5 minutes. Everyone here thinks they know everyone's business, but by the time most rumors get around, they are so messed up it's hysterical really. I live in a "township", it is so small, yet we are attracting new, small businesses all the time. If the steel mills ever go under, it'll be a ghost town. The best thing though is, after 18 years, we finally own our own home.

I live six miles from a small town of 1000 people. You talk about gossip and rumors. I just let them fly over my head.
I live in a 160 yr. old 11 room house built during the civil war by my husbands gr. grandfather on 3 acres. On the south we have fruit trees, before the terrible storm in May we had 40 shade trees. We have four seasons. Which I love especially fall. I love the falling, colored leaves and the apples and pumpkins. I love to watch the birds out my kitchen window when I eat breakfast. It is so quiet here I play the radio just to be sure I am still alive and not in a coma. I walk on the blacktop every morning and everyone waves or stops and chats. We have our planting in April and harvest in Sept/Oct. Can't beat it with a stic:-4 k.

Well being a San Diego Native I must say my little paradise has grown to large with to damn many people. :-5
:-6 It still is one of the most beautiful places in the US excellent weather year round. I don't even own a coat. Your 20 minutes from the beach no matter where live, or 20 minutes to the mountains or desert.. Growing up it was great not so many people..
STILL MY HOME TOWN.. AND I WOULDN'T LIVE ANY WHERE ELSE.. :-6 :-6

Re: What do you like most about where you live?
My next door neighbour Elsie, she truly is a diamond, she never interferes
yet is always around when need be.
My other new neighbour moved in 4 months ago, they have a Rottweiller
called Hades and he's madly in love with my little dog, who hates him with a vengeance!
He pines for her at the fence and jumps up & tries to kiss her :-4

The only thing I don't like about living in Portland is the fact that the weather is so terribly inconsistent....last summer it was hotter than my home state of Arkansas and summer lasted from May until October nearly. This year it's regularly cloudy and in the 70s...and it's July! We've really only had a handful of days that needed air conditioning, and half of those were in March :-2
Otherwise, I love it here. Mountains all around, Mount St. Helens to the north, Mt. Hood to the east, the Pacific coast 2 hours west...it's the best of both worlds, urban & natural. Portland is a nice sized city, still small enough to be manageable, with some really great neighborhoods and great food.
Definitely better than my native Arkansas

I like Carla's description of San Diego. It is beautiful there. I am originally from southern California, and been in Baltimore 5 years. In 2-4 years we will be moving back to California and I can't wait! The heat mix with the humidity in the East is a killer. The positive is the best seafood around, and stands of trees and lots of greeness. The locals just don't appreciate it enough. It still fascinates me, all the greenery. The negative is the dark days of winter with little sunshine, and snow. Yuch! I miss the culture, the mix of languages, food and family. I hate walking around here and talking to someone in Spanish, and they all are paranoid about other languages.

I live in a township in Ohio, too! You're right about everyone knowing everyone else's business. I can overlook that because I love being able to live in an area with lots of land and yet still be 20 minutes from downtown Cleveland. Lots of wildlife, with the convenience of the big city nearby. I also live by a highway and I rely on the sounds of cars and trucks to lull me to sleep. We also have the remains of a castle---yes, a CASTLE---in our "backyard." Technically I have to tresspass to get to it, but the neighbors don't really care. A shady doctor built it back in the seventies when he was selling drugs for more than medicinal purposes. It's a great hideaway for artistic purposes, or just reflection. Very cool. And of course, since I live in Ohio, I'm surrounded by corn and soybeans.
