Whose death affected you the most?

For me, President Kennedy. And, although I wasn't a fan of either, Elvis Presley and Diana.

But why do we react at all when we don't know these people? Is it what they symbolise for us? Do they become an integral part of our lives, however impersonally, and hence we feel a sense of loss? Any ideas, anyone?

um.....probably oddly enough, i feel a tremendous sense of loss when we loose one of the 'old boys' whom i consider to be masters of their craft, like Denholm Elliott or Laurence Olivier or Peter Ustinov. it's like a passing of the old guard, the likes of whom we may never be lucky enough to see again. these men were artists. their command of the english language and screen/stage presence was truly something that younger generations cannot hope to replicate. this is not to say i write younger/my generation actors off, it's just that these older guys, now gone were something truly unique and special.

brad pitt, george clooney, and tom cruise might be easy on the eye, but wise, erudite men they are not.

Well recently, I miss "lenny" from Law and Order, but overall, I miss...



Judy Garland.

Poor little rich girl.

John Lennon for me.

Jim Croce, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury - all of them incredible talents, we lost them so young the world has far less great music than it would or should have. :-1

I remember the day the nation went into mourning over JFK. My teacher came in crying and said our parents would be coming to pick us up. My Dad had just died so I knew what dead meant. I got home and the neighbors were all in the street - crying and crying.

I'm not even jewish, but I mourned the loss of Yitshak Rabin. Weird, huh? Princess Dianas' death shocked me too.

We may not know these people personally, but through television, they are invited into our lives nontheless.
