Mission to the USA

Over 50 young Irish adventurers are on the final countdown for a trip of a lifetime treking 200km across the United States.Leaving next Wednesday, the participants aged 17-20 will fly to a secret location in the US accompained by 25 volunteer staff. They will be dropped off by bus in different locations and given an envelope with their instructions, a map and a the address of base camp.

They will then have 10 days to walk the 200km to base camp, encountering various physical,mental, cultural and social challenges along the way.

Every year the international scouting challenge, run by Scouting Ireland, travels to a different country and is heading stateside for the first time.

Team Leader Mary Nugent, said the aim of the trip was closely linked to the aim of scouting worldwide.''That is, to contribute to the development of the individual, physically, mentally, socially, spiritually and culturally so that they may play a more constructive role in society.
