I know someone who has Dementia. Do any members here know how to deal with (handle) people with this nasty disease? I read up on the subject, but I am having trouble trying to put the instructions to use with the person I know. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't go in asking them how they are. Lead whatever conversation can be had, don't sit watching. To whatever extent you know the person, you know their past - take something physical they have experience manipulating. If it's an ex gun club member take a familiar pistol and get them to clean it for you, there might be more left than is obvious, it might lead to conversation as well. I'm only playing left-field here because you've trouble with more cautious instructions. You could tell me to stop being flippant or to go on, explore a bit further. If you've any context you can post online - or even PM... ah, I turned the PM system off when UK law changed earlier this year. Or you could ask me to forward other members' email addresses and I'll ask permission and you could take the problem further with them. It's an urgent question with the potential to be an important one.

I think the bit about something physical is helpful, and if it has surprise or shock value even more so. It's not a once-off, it's a strategy.
