A Priest and four nuns each face up to 20 years in jail after performing an extraordinary exorcism on a 23-year old woman who was chained to a cross, gagged and starved in the cellar of a Romanian convent.

The woman died, appareently of suffocation, because a hand towel had been stuffed into her mouth to muzzle her screams.

Maricica Cornici, who was brought up in an orphanage before becoming a nun, was crucified for three days while Father Daniel, a Romanian Orthodox priest, recited prayers to banish evil spirits.

According to a Romanian News Agency, the woman was a schizophrenic,given to rapid mood swings, and this had persuaded nuns in the convent in Romania, that she was possessed by the Devil.

The priest said that ''God has performed a miracle for her''. ''At last God has delivered her''.

I heard the tale end of a radio news broadcast last week about a priest killing a woman. He was reported saying that the courts couldn't do anything to him because it was Gods work.

God only knows what goes on inside these convents.

Makes the hairs stand up on my arms.. God how she must have suffered. :-1

It was a totally dispicable act that deserves the full weight of the law brought down on them.
