The Kennedy Center

I'm concerned at the mounting prices at events in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
I tried booking two seats (Orchestra L118/9) for tomorrow's performance of Crime and Punishment (Wednesday Feb 12 2025, 07:30 PM, Opera House) and, including the $40 booking price (which is outrageous and unjustified), the cost came to $301.
That suggests to me that most people in Washington DC are financially barred from regular attendance. It compares poorly with prices at the London Barbican or the National Theatre. The prices in Washington are elitist.
Something should be done.

Well, The Kennedy Center is a pretty high falutin' place these days, or was until The Donald took it over. Try again in a couple months. He says he's going to give the place some class.

Donald Trump's name has officially been scrubbed from the Kennedy Center ... and while the new look is still blocked by scaffolding and a tarp, we're finally seeing behind the mask.
Take a peek behind the giant tarp that has been covering part of the Kennedy Center's facade where Trump's name once hung. Thanks to photos obtained by Hands off the Arts ... we can now see the iconic venue without the Trump signage that sparked major controversy.
Trump's name didn't come down quietly ... after months of legal wrangling, courts sided with folks who argued the Trump-controlled Kennedy Center board never had the power to rename the iconic venue in the first place ... ordering Trump's name stripped from the building, website, and other official materials.
The Trump signage came down earlier this month, but a large tarp remained in place ever since crews wrapped up work.
While the tarp still hangs, visitors can finally get a clear view of the Kennedy Center's new look ... and the big block letters spelling out Donald J. Trump are gone.

The real battle is whether the Trump-appointed board will refuse to schedule respectable programs with respectable artists, primarily classical, or whether they'll try to destroy the organisation. My money's on the Kennedy Center never coming back to its former prominence.
