Jimmy Carter, RIP

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, at the age of 100.

I would offer Jimmy Carter as one of the hardest-working and most effective people of the 20th century, both within the four years of his Presidency and thereafter. Having recently finished reading Kai Bird's biography and discussed it, I'm astonished at his human depth and mental clarity. America was fortunate to have him as a President, the world was fortunate to have him for the remainder of his life.

Needed a sad day, an effective President from the days before the civil war within the US government.

They've just now raised the flags from half-staff in his honor. And we have moved on to what may prove to be the most bizarre chapter in American History. (I am glad that he was saved from witnessing all of this.

I met President Carter a couple of times. The first was when he was touring the area where I lived when he was Governor.
The second time was when he was running for President and I was working at the hotel where he was campaigning. He remembered me.

He was the most intelligent and most gracious man that I can ever remember meeting.
