If you never change your starter word, you can guarantee that to happen once for the life of the game (3,000 days or so). If you change your starter word daily without remembering what words have already been chosen by the game, then you can expect it to happen 2 or 3 times. Either way it's a bit of a shock.

And... if you eliminate all the words that have been played from your list of possible guesses each day, you can get your likeliest number of first-time guesses to 8.58.

I am curious.
What time does this reset for you all?
It seems to reset at midnight local time for me. (Which is US Mountain time -6 Greenwich)
I was expecting a global midnight reset based on NY, or Greenwich time.
Maybe, it resets at local midnight?

It's tooth and nail in the trivia this month, the opposition is relentless.

If some kind person would explain this game, including any rules etc. I might even have a stab at joining in. At the moment I haven't the foggiest idea what the aim of the game is, in fact nowt at all abart it !

By the way - Ay up all you luvly people, as you can see I'm still around, coping with various and sundry. Of course it's the sundry that gives me the most trouble !

You have to guess a five-letter word in no more than six tries.

All you can try each time must be a real five-letter word and you submit it with the ENTER key.

You get told each time the location of letters you got in the right place and which others were right but in the wrong place.

When you've finished, if you click "SHARE" the shape of your game, but not the letters of your guesses, go into your clipboard. You can paste it into this thread. Not showing the letters means everyone can still play the same day's game and not be given clues.

Everyone has the same word to guess during each 1-day game, then the word changes.

Thank you Mr. spot. That was very helpful - I shall read, digest and try to string it all together. I've no doubt that once I've got the idea, I shall wonder why I had thought it so complicated !
