Once you have a polarized society it takes generations before you can resume cooperative government. What you end up with is an extremist party and a centre party which refuses to get in bed with the extremism but ends up occupying the space the other party ought by rights to be representing.

The UK has it, an extreme Conservative party and a centre-right Labour party. America has the same with different labels.

The UK is quite capable of voting in independents or fringe parties though, when it gets annoyed.

You're probably right but considering only about 25% of registered voters are Republican, splintering them will make their numbers that much less. Now if we could get a handle on voter suppression, we'd be all set.

I'm still on the fence whether our new POTUS is doing a good job or not so far! Some things he's already done I like, and then some things he's already done I dislike!

My main concern is the Executive Order, in general.
This has become tradition, now, for a president to attempt to push policy changes around the legislative process.
I am somewhat conservative regarding Constitutional law and the process to make policy and law.
He will get away with a lot for the next year or so, or until the Republicans get their brains back.

But eventually, all of those things he is doing now will face Congress and become vulnerable to congressional review.

First off, he has killed thousands of jobs for Americans.

And then he has refused to halt a divisive impeachment,

questioned the loyalty of our troops,

sparked an immigration crisis,

surrendered to China via energy policy.

And He's only just got started.

National Guard troops are patrolling a green zone around the Inauguration Day activities. News reported that the troops are actually being vetted for political affiliation as Democrats see our own military as a threat.

Caravans from Central America are already on the road, thanks to Biden’s comments on immigration policy. Articulating a policy of no deportations for the first 100 days and floating amnesty in public would predictably create a border crisis. And all the people who desire to come to this country are listening.
Any one who thinks the intention of these groups is to be detained at the border for processing is insane. They want to cross the border.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is smiling. USA joining the unenforceable Paris climate accords again. In this non-binding agreement, our global elite decided to treat China as a developing nation and give them a pass on carbon reduction requirements for a decade or two. Wall Street executives are just determined to wring as much wealth as they can doing business with a communist nation that poses an existential threat to our way of life. If America is degraded along the way, they don’t care.

Just watched our POTUS tonight on a TV special update regarding the Pandemic , he did a good job with his update briefing!

His speech was upbeat, and informative, he said all Americans (that want to be vaccinated) will be vaccinated by May 30!

The goal is for our life as we knew it here in America to return back to normal by July 4th, "Independence day"!

I'd be interested to know what Covid target anyone in America might put on, for example, deaths per day. Are we expecting to say the outbreak is over when the number of deaths drops below, say, a hundred a day? Ten a day?

I only mention ten a day as an example because it would still be as many killed each year as the casualties from 9/11, which until now has been the American ballpark of intolerable outrage. If we bring Covid deaths down to ten a day will we be pleased with that? And when sounds a likely timeframe to get there. Another year? Two years? Never?

The goal is for mass inoculation of the American herd, thereby drastically reducing the number of new cases each day, thereby reducing the number of deaths each day from covid-19, thereby hopefully returning to normalcy of sorts. Precautions I'm sure will still be in effect.

I believe covid-19 regular vaccinations (containing variants) will likely be required each year, similar to the current yearly influenza vaccinations here in USA. Time will tell.

You could be right. I've heard that kind of notion expressed a couple of times. While the precautions may be relaxed to a degree, I suspect that some of the basics, like wearing a mask when out in a crowded locale, and some basic "Social Distancing" precautions might continue. People in the service industries will likely keep their masks handy, and those plexiglass barriers at the mini-marts will not go away any time soon.
The fact that influenza infections have all but ceased in the wake of COVID would support the idea of following these precautions as standard practice.
Though, I gotta say, they definitely must improve on the method of vaccination. I found the #2 shot to be a tad brutal. I was down for the count the day after #2.
I don't see many people signing up for that 2-shot solution on a yearly basis.

I personally can see myself never going back to hanging out where a lot of people with bad judgement gather like Casinos, Bars, big crowd-feeder restaurants, All-you-can-eat Buffets, maybe even Rock concerts - Not that I have been to many of those in the last decade or two.

It's sat in the back of my mind and I still have no sense of an answer, how many Covid deaths a year will just be considered a normal background that nobody much cares about. Thirty? Thirty thousand?

For reference, the figure today is still around half a million a year in America (fifty thousand a year in the UK) and descending - there's a long way to go yet. Would we settle for fifty thousand deaths a year in America, ten thousand in the UK? Is it feasible to get it lower than that?

If anyone has a source for influenza deaths over the last year I'd be interested. I can't find any.

The press is starting to notice that President Biden has given no press conference since the inauguration, and that this is unusual. I think he's avoiding real-time interactions on camera.

Last week, the CDC announced that so far there has been a single death in the US attributed to Influenza.

A lot of information can be found here for US Influenza data.

The USA is going to hell in a hand basket!

* Immigration policy turmoil
* Putin recalled Russian ambassador due to Biden agreeing Putin is a killer
* Thousands out of work due to Biden shutting down Keystone pipeline
* Biden should be concerned with China now meddling in every corner of the world.

Just to name a few disasters

It's unfortunate that Trump was such a lousy self centered human being, but many of his policies had merit, that Biden is now destroying!

If I might pop a question, should he not be more concerned with America's habitual meddling in every corner of the world?

Which specific part of China's worldwide meddling do you regard as deplorable? Which country are we discussing here?

And by comparison, which specific part of America's worldwide meddling would you applaud?

Americans are so often generalists who never get close to any detail. Is China meddling to the disadvantage of Kenya, for example? Or Kurdistan? Indonesia? Peru? Pakistan? If you zoom in to a specific country we could look at the detail. And to be balanced you could pick any country on earth and explain why that country's relationship with America is, or even has been, beneficial.

Well, Immigration policy has been in turmoil since at least the Bush administration. maybe even longer than that.

Russians are our friends? Really?

Now the Keystone, again? Have you ever actually researched the the Keystone and Keystone XL?
Do you know what its purpose is?

I bet that you have not, and do not.

The only Americans who will benefit from the completion of Keystone XL are the investors in the Canadian Tar Sands projects.

The jobs for Americans on the Keystone projects were temporary construction jobs.

What about the jobs of the truckers and railroad workers now employed in transporting the Tars Sands oil via rail and Trucking? The Keystone project will end their jobs.
When it is completed, all of those people will be out of work, as well as the welders and construction people hired to build the pipeline.

We will likely not agree on each other's views, however, we are entitled to our views as they are.

* Thousands of illegals are now streaming into America daily thanks to Biden's ill-advised invite. Now it is said he wants to give them "stimulus" checks?! Absurd.

* China meddles in others country's affairs for their own benefit. Like China hacked into America's economy and corporations.
America meddles in other country's affairs to help that country. Like giving Millions of dollars in aid. When needed, sending medical supplies and personnel.

* Doing away with the pipeline aside from at least four states now deprived of millions of dollars in property taxes, leaves America now at the mercy of the Arab Oil Barons, again.

* Biden agreeing that Putin is a killer, is certainly lacking Détente! That statement made Trump look good!

Agree, or disagree, we all have our opinions.

Oh my word. Goodness gracious.

If you contrast the state of these countries before America meddled, was it better before or after? Libya, for instance, was far better off under Gaddafi than it has been since American destabilization. Iraq was far better off under Saddam Hussein than it has been since American destabilization. Syria was far better off under Bashar al-Assad than it has been since American destabilization. Afghanistan was far better off under the Taliban than it has been since American destabilization. Pick any other country in which America has meddled and we can discuss the degree of improvement.

All I see in "America meddles in other country's affairs to help that country" is self-induced patriotic blindness. What's wrong with looking at the reality?

Like every other country in the G20 America has an aid program but that is not America meddling. Look at the activities of the CIA in countries such as Persia, Cuba, Columbia, Nicaragua, Indonesia to name but a few - it’s been going on for at least eighty years and is still happening.

And the Pipeline had nothing to do with us having oil. It was designed to transport Tar Sands sludge to the shipping ports near Houston where it would be carried off to the overseas markets.

The US has been on the top 5 list of producers for years, now.
We have long since outgrown our dependence on Arab Oil.

So, if one's opinion is based on incorrect information, what is that opinion worth?

No, it's not "whatever". It's millions of dead, and millions of people displaced as refugees who you then go on to blame for trying to cross borders into more privileged countries. "Whatever" is sweeping the problem under the carpet instead of honestly facing up to acknowledging it. "Whatever" is cowardice.

I do realize you've been indoctrinated since birth to accept American Exceptionalism, but that doesn't excuse you for never having fought your way past the propaganda and discovered the objective truth. American foreign policy is more lethal than that of any other nation.

Oh.

No, that ought not to have happened. The image.

I had hoped to get through the remainder of my time without watching Airplane! again but no, you had to do that and I had to download a copy. I'm at the end of the Staying Alive segment wondering how they filmed it. And, of course, how they could write it in the first place.

To balance the observation, a factual report:
nearly half (44%) of respondents in the 53 countries surveyed are concerned that the US threatens democracy in their country; fear of Chinese influence is by contrast 38%, and fear of Russian influence is lowest at 28%. The findings may in part reflect views on US comparative power, but they show neither the US, nor the G7, can simply assume the mantle of defenders of democracy.

Since last year, the perception of US influence as a threat to democracy around the world has increased significantly, from a net opinion of +6 to a net opinion of +14. This increase is particularly high in Germany (+20) and China (+16).

The countries still overwhelmingly negative about US influence are Russia and China, followed by European democracies.

Are millions dead because we don't need or want their problems imported here?

Really?

If we don't have borders, we are not a nation. We can only prosper as long as we have laws to protect our sovereignty and basic human rights and citizens who respect and live by them. The number one duty of government is to protect its citizens.

You've almost reached enlightenment - all you need do now is recognize that what you just wrote applies equally to every country on earth, as well as America.

I'll spoon-feed this for you. I am not willing to say it applies to every nation/country on Earth or not.

Yes, I got that. You're saying you think America is special and should get special terms and special consideration and special treatment and special access because it's special unlike other countries which aren't special in the way America is. I probably used the word "exceptional" earlier, as in "America is an exception when it comes to rules". The thing is, the old rule of do as you would be done by seems to be broken where America is concerned and I don't quite see why.
