The dev extension works in phpBB3.3, it's been worked on for three years, still being modified but it looks stable and functional. A change last December broke previous links when a subfolder was introduced to allow finer permissions granularity.
Are we sufficiently up and online to try extensions?

I turned off the 800px limit, you might like to put it back if you prefer. The browser code is reactive, the picture shrinks as the window gets smaller.

If, when you've tried this out, you decide that you don't want your images to be shown at the top of the board index / forum list then you can switch this off by going into the User Control Panel > Board Preferences and change the last option at the bottom of the page.

The desktops look prettier but this laptop has seen better days - I'd update but it's already at its maximum.

Set permission for groups, default only admin group can upload images.
You're safer at permissions than I am.

That should be done now - I left the newly registered but everyone from registered up is set up.
