Man May Have Molested 36,000 Children

Police Say Man May Be Most Prolific Molester In U.S. History

POSTED: 12:13 pm EDT June 17, 2005

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A set of meticulously-kept notebooks has police in San Jose, Calif., fearing they may have uncovered one of the "most active" child molesters ever seen.

Investigators are seeking the public's help in identifying possible victims of 63-year-old Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller, who's been jailed without bail in the case.

In Schwartzmiller's home, police discovered handwritten lists of more than 36,000 children's names, mostly boys, and codes that appear to indicate how he abused them. Police said the case could involve thousands of victims in at least five U.S. states as well as Brazil and Mexico. They discussed the case for the first time yesterday, in part to urge other victims to come forward.

One of the man's neighbors said she's been suspicious for months. She barred her two sons from going into his home after she said Schwartzmiller bought them treats from an ice cream truck.

Although convicted of molestation, Schwartzmiller never registered as a sex offender, so his history had never turned up in databases in California or other states......

my only hope, and it is a terribly sad 'hope', is that the 36,000 entries are not unique individual names, but, (argh), listings of each sex act, presumably multiple times for the named individuals.

does that make sense? gott! what horror. i'm reduced to 'hoping' that he violated a smaller number of victims multiple times, rather than the equivalent of an entire city's population - of terribly harmed children.

it is when faced with a monster of this calibre that hanging seems far too good for the perpetrator.

how can a human does this to his fellow humans? how? HOW?

i heard of that on the radio today on my way to work. Made my stomach lurch.

There is no words to discribe this horror. I think he ought to be publicly castrated. No Anesthetic.

So sad, so unbelievably sad. Give him to the victims and their families and let them deal out their own form of justice. No matter what this man's excuse is, it is no excuse. I could easily give him a lethal injection and never live to regret it.

As my dad would say, "they should cut off his b***s and shove 'em down his throat!" I can only hope and pray it's not true, certainly not to that extreme, if anything. :-1

It is a sickness of the mind that normal people find unimaginable. I think I speak for everyone when I say - OMFG.
