Socialist London bookshop Bookmarks was attacked over the weekend by a "far-right mob" and is now calling for solidarity following the "Nazi attack".

By the nonsense the gobby cameraman was shouting they aren't too bright, which is all the more frightening.

Thought my thread title was "Is this the rise of the far right"..............I missed out Rise.

They don't sound very bright, at least the vocal ones, suspect the quiet ones are the brains behind it, winding the easily lead up to take any comeback.

I think that the long anticipated "Zombie Apocalypse" is upon us.

Though there was a major typo in the original memo.

Instead of "in search of brains", it should have read "in need of brains."

I'm not ready for the "Zombie Apocalypse". Of course I haven't been ready for most of the "stuff" that has hit the fan over the past year or so....

Yes, the far right are on the rise. It's getting more open and obvious. I think it likely that the day we leave - and it's no deal Brexit that looks the most likely - there will be a surge of far right/racist activity just as there was after the actual vote. They have already committed murder, the Police have claimed they stopped 5 far right plots in the last year and they are now openly vandalising radical bookshops in placard waving groups.

I think we are at the point where everyone who opposes this sort of thing has to realise it is real and it is happening here, in England, NOW. We all have to take a look at ourselves and decide how far we each, personally, are prepared to go to stop it because the old saying is true: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing.

And good people tend to worry they are doing the right thing, think of consequences, worry about family and friends...and do nothing not because they meant to but because the time has passed. And by doing nothing, without ever meaning to, you become in effect a supporter of the far right/racists. It's happened before.

The other thing is that we are generally peaceable folk who haven't the first clue how to deal with something like this. I've certainly been wondering what to do. At present the main thing I've come up with that we can all do is, Don't walk by on the other side. If something happens near you, say something, call the Police, intervene if you are able. Be aware that this may put you in difficult situations but I think we have to do this or we will just get trampled on. And you can do this whether you voted leave or remain, working on the assumption there are brexiters who do not support racism and the far right. Though thinking a bit longer maybe brexiters won't oppose other brexiters...there must be a few who would.

The other thing I'm sure of: the longer we leave it the worse it will be when we face it. The signs are that they are getting more organised and more confident the closer we get to Brexit. The only sign I've seen the other way is that some people spray painted "POSH SCUM" on Rees-Mogg's family mansion. It's not clear it was anything but random vandalism but it might be.

I never thought I'd be writing something like this seriously, in England, today.
