‘serial bomber’

Post by tude dog »

Bad enough with the school shooting, it seems somebody figured out a way to one-up that.

As a nation, we debate how to best protect our children in schools, now how we protect everybody from such random violence?

Really nothing new, just a way to grab headlines.

After fourth Austin explosion, police warn of sophisticated ‘serial bomber’

AUSTIN —Anxious Texans huddled inside their homes Monday as investigators scrambled for clues at the scene of another mysterious explosion here, the fourth in a string of attacks this month that authorities say are the work of a sophisticated “serial bomber” who has been terrorizing this city with increasingly complex devices.

The latest blast, which injured two men walking through a residential area Sunday night, marked an escalation in both the tactics and skills displayed by the bomber or bombers, police said. While the three previous bombs were hidden in packages delivered to people’s homes, the fourth device was left on the side of the road and was rigged with a tripwire, showing “a higher level of sophistication, a higher level of skill,” said Brian Manley, the interim Austin police chief.

“What we have seen now is a significant change from what appeared to be three very targeted attacks to what was, last night, an attack that would have hit a random victim that happened to walk by,” Manley said at a news briefing. “So we’ve definitely seen a change in the method.”

Wish they'd skip the editorializing.

Giving the guy all that praise of his abilities just encourages him to escalate.

It seems whoever is responsible for this is on a roll. Listening to speculation the sophistication of the devices in rapid succession suggests there is a stockpile ready.

It will be interesting to find out who is doing this.

Package bound for Austin explodes at Texas FedEx facility, police say

SCHERTZ, Tex. — A package believed to be bound for Austin exploded early Tuesday morning at a FedEx facility about an hour south of that city, expanding the investigation into the bombings that have rattled the Texas capital this month, officials said.

Police have said the bombing campaign in Austin is the work of a skilled bomber or bombers, and they have expressed concerns that whoever is responsible has recently shifted tactics — moving from leaving package bombs outside homes to setting a device rigged with a tripwire — showing even greater sophistication than investigators first believed.

The explosion Tuesday morning occurred while the device was on an automated conveyor belt at a FedEx center in Schertz, Tex., just outside San Antonio. One employee said it caused ringing in her ears, but no one else was wounded, police said.
