Aren't we all objects? I think he showed the beauty of women and that there was nothing sinful, sleazy, naughty etc. etc about women and their bodies.

The British had these magazines long before they became available in the rather more repressed United States. Titbits started publication in the 1880s for instance, and Health & Efficiency in 1900.

Why are these kinds of magazines.....(if they are so liberating) banned in workplaces. In fact any calanders, magazines, newspapers (with page three girls) kept out of the main domain?

Hugh says they liberated women. He said women were objects to be admired (only if you were between the pages and not the boss of a company)

So why would these magazines be so restricted because of their apparent offence?

Hands up ! Who would be proud of their child being in these magazines? What do you think the outcome would be in their social and family lives?

For the same sort of reason that there is still a degree of stigma about purchasing a packet of condoms - especially from a female assistant. When it first came to be it may well have been frowned on, but it soon became more & more recognised as quality. Many of the articles also won awards for quality writing.

For women to be convinced that being naked in a magazine for the sole purpose of getting millions of men off, that theyll never meet or ever know is deeply saddening. For any woman to think that somehow its a proud moment in their lives makes me wonder what headspace she was in at the time.

And you yourself have admitted acceptance in society due to your looks? Really? Thats how you sum your own beauty up as?......then society and its sexist and degrading attitude toward women has done a hell of a job on you. There is no difference between hugh and trump in regards to women.....None! Yet ones' a hero and the other is nasty? .....nope.

If Playboy isn't a sexist publication and is all about art and beauty, then why aren't there also pictures of naked men and older people in it? Before it's posted that there is the Playgirl magazine for the women, remember, we're supposedly talking about art and beauty in general as opposed to sexual attraction. The male body is just as pretty as the female body. Playboy, as well as the rest of that class of visuals, is to exploit females, and young females at that.

That many of the articles in Playboy were quality only goes to show that intelligent men can be sexist as well.

I never stated I was accepted into society because of my looks. If one develops into a beautiful stunning female you will be & are admired - whether your in the pages of a magazine or not.

There was never a negative degrading attitude regarding women in our house hold - My Mom was a very protective mother hen. I'm not ashamed of being a pretty.

If your pretty then you would have a life time of experience of being starred at - followed - approached. If one wants to take advantage of that gift (pretty)- then go for it.

We're not talking about prostitutes hanging around back street.

I haven't seen a ugly picture in Play Boy yet

With very few exceptions, everybody is pretty when they're young. It's why we all want to make babies with each other at that stage. Except for Spot, he's been pretty his entire life.

Interesting that you see a line between what you believe is a difference between acceptable prostitution and un acceptable. Yes my dear ...posing naked in front of a camera for the sole purpose to titilate and turn on ..and recieve funds or profit for it..is by definition prostitution.

And the fact you compare what you believe is a distinction between ugly and good looking girls. Do you discriminate between rich and poor women as well? The rich are friends? The poor, your servants?

Not one male in this thread has lied..... every single male in this thread has admitted to what those magazine are and their purpose. But only one has admitted the darker side of it.

If you think that industry empowers women in any way then you are sadly mistaken.

And NO.....No woman should be addressed in any kind of way based on her looks. You are essentially tiering woman as to their personal and societal worth. And quite frankly THAT woman who finds herself down some back alley selling herself has just as much worth as a woman who feels proud to be interviewed by playboy.

A number of years ago I watched a tv show where Jack Nicholson was being honored. If my memory serves me, the first thing he said in his opening remarks was: "I'm lucky to be large".

Jack was right, he was lucky because he never chose his anatomy (his mother actually had more to do with that choice) and likewise, none of us choose our looks. A culture selects members to praise and reward based on appearance (mostly based on age, mind you) and those deemed "pretty" through the culture's medium are lucky and nothing more.
