Just wandering if there are any music lovers out there who are interested in French and/or Italian artists?

Cinq Fois Deux, a brilliant recent French film features quite a few Italian songs, like Bobby Solo's 'Una Lacrima Sul Viso' which I absolutely love. lol.

My collection is canny small, lol, but here is a list of the songs I have:

Bobby Solo - Una Lacrima Sul Viso

Kyo & Sita - Le Chemin

Khaled - Aicha

Notre Dame - Garou-Belle

Toto Cotugno - L'Italiano

Domenico Modugno - Volare

and, a couple of Eros Ramazotti songs

Is there anybody who can recommend some French or Italian songs to me? I like all kinds of genres and dont mind how old the songs are.

There are so many styles.

My preference is the self-accompanied singer presenting his own ballads. If that works for you then the obvious names to check out would be Felix LeClerc, Georges Brassens, Gilles Vigneault, Jaques Brel, Robert Charlebois. If you enjoy folk music, perhaps La Botine Souriante, or Dan Ar Braz who can do things with a hurdy-gurdy that few others can approach.

If they don't work for you, what style would be closer to your preference?

My particular love is classical baroque - especially Handel.

It's only a fairly tenuous link to Italy, I know, but Handel produced both his 'Almira' and 'Nero' operas there and, while in Rome, became friends with Scarlatti.

I have a recording of Handel's arias sung in Italian by the great British tenor Robert White and can listen to 'The Messiah' year round!

Have you ever listened to Rufus Wainwright? He has the most beautiful voice! He sings a lot of songs in French and some in English, but the French songs are my favourite. Listen to him if you can.....he's fab!

I don't know...

The song I'm looking for is deffinately about a man's pet monkey...

It's quite firey and passionate and the singer's voice is almost a shout at one point, but 'Pépé' his monkey's name is always sung softly, at the end of a wild rant if you like.

I probably sound crazy to you, but I study French, and my teacher actually had the class listen to the song and he told us about it, then we translated it.

For the life of me I can't remember who sang it...
