The article is titled "US Capitol shooting: Gunman wounds Capitol police officer" :-

US Capitol shooting: Gunman wounds Capitol police officer - BBC News

But the very last paragraph is :-

"The White House was also put on lockdown temporarily due to a separate incident."

Tacking this onto the end of another article stinks of trying to hide news - or is that me being paranoid?

Is anything being said about it in the States?

"The White House also briefly closed its North and South fence lines as a precautionary measure after the Capitol incident" - WTKR.

So there's a difference of fact between two reports.

"A separate incident at the White House, involving someone attempting to jump over the fence onto the property, put that building on lockdown as well, with all staff being told to remain where they are." - https://hollywoodlife.com/2016/03/28/ca ... icer-shot/

Police officers said there were shots fired at the Capitol’s visitor center Monday, and the massive complex was put on lockdown.

The Capitol’s east plaza filled with police vehicles as the intercom system blared a warning about the shots and ordered staffers to remain in their offices with the doors locked.

According to the NBC Nightly News, which just concluded, the shooter was a well-known nut case, a self-appointed clergyman from a southern state, and he was armed with only a pellet gun. Sounds like a good way to get killed.

No doubt more details will emerge later.

It seems that the WH lockdown was a reaction to the stuff going on at the capitol. A "Just to be safe" action.

There will be more on the morning news, so we shall see.

ADDED TUESDAY MORNING: The daily newspaper has just arrived. Erica Werner of the Associated Press gives a detailed (20 column inches) report of the incident. No mention of any fence-scaling at the White House.

We have a variation on the tale...A woman was arrested at the White House Easter Egg Roll for trying to move a temporary security barrier on Monday.

The incident occurred around the same time that an armed man was shot and taken into custody at the Capitol Visitor Center, putting Congress and the White House on lockdown, but the Secret Service says there is no relationship between the two incidents.

Would they lock down the White House for something so trivial?

Bryn Mawr;1494198 wrote: Would they lock down the White House for something so trivial?I'm surprised they allow anything so iconic to happen there. If a member of the protection detail misinterpreted the Easter Bunny's movements as "going for his gun", for example, the resulting front-page images would put the world's children off their Special K for days. Why take the risk, that's the question. At least if it were Santa he's dressed in red.

There is all kinds of security around the White House. Somebody should tell Barry it is a good idea to lock the front door.

I bet So-Called David Cameron doesn't have a key to 10 Downing Street.

I can't speak for the White House but I can't lock or open my own front door without a key. From the inside, from the outside, the front door and both the back doors, they all have mortice locks and no latch. I usually have to lift a security bar to let people in, too, not that it happens often.

Cameron doesn't have a key to 10 Downing Street - No-one does. It doesn't have a lock.
