The first report said it was magnitude 8, they don't happen often. Just off the coast, but that doesn't mean nobody got hurt. I'll go and look at a news.

There have been some fairly significant aftershock in the area, as well. And at around fifty km, all of this is relatively shallow.

We call all base ten logs "natural logs" and we don't write the base if it is 10. For example: log 1000 = 3. Do you use a different definition?

It's a technical term - Demystifying the Natural Logarithm (ln) | BetterExplained is helpful.

This one was freaky. First of all - probably initiated by subconciously hearing the news report on the radio, I was dreaming about being in an earthquake in my tower block. Then, a few seconds after I woke up I heard the presenter on Five Live reading an old forum posting of mine from a couple of years back (possibly on here), regarding tower blocks in Japan having been made earthquake resistant by means of putting long, free hanging iron rods down the middle of them - the quote was even attributed with my name. I know the obvious thought would have been that I was still dreaming, but I was definitely awake by then.

Cue music from 'The Twilight Zone'. Definitely a bit 'cosmic coincidence'!
