Rapper 50 Cent files for bankruptcy in the US - BBC News
I would need to look closely at Mr Cent's lyrics before deciding whether he has my sympathy. I have doubts even before I look.

I like Fitty (that's how 50 is pronounced). Here is his theme song to the fun series Power.

50 Cent's Half a Dollar
I like his music. No comment on his personal life, I know nothing, haven't been following the story.
50 Cent's Half a Dollar
It was, if I recall, Mr Cent who introduced us to Shorty by way of his megarap "Pimp": She in the club, she dancing for dollars. The club itself is a professional dance hall. In England it would be a seaside tea-room and the dance partners would be firmly chaperoned, but the scenes undoubtedly have major overlap. For the tea-room danseuse it would also often be the case that "She from the country, she like me cause I'm from Brighton" - lyrics Agatha Christie herself might have written for her latest Miss Marple victim.
And who can forget his immortal pairing with Olivia Newton John in which he shared the last of his confectionery: "I'll let you lick the lollipop - go ahead girl, don't you stop - keep going til you hit the spot".

Good lord no, it would have still happened in the early fifties. Professional dance partners hired by the hour disappeared not long after then, though tea dances can still be found if you know where to look.
Here you are, written in 1942, set in the depression of the early thirties, Agatha Christie, "The Body in the Library": The body is identified by Ruby's cousin and colleague, Josephine "Josie" Turner, who explains that she is a dancer and bridge hostess at the Majestic and had asked Ruby to fill in as dance hostess, due to Josie suffering ankle injuries. Ruby would just dance with guests and give exhibition dances with Raymond Starr, the tennis and dancing professional.

Yes, but it's not exactly Today, is it now? Fitty writes for Today.

It's recent. Girls like Shorty were certainly working as professional dance partners in the USA between the wars, and Mr Cent tells us that such clubs still operated ten years ago in his part of town. It's possible - I'm starting to guess at this stage - that the class of clientele has deteriorated in America, though not in England. Other aspects of the lyrics in "Pimp" have a seedy aspect, I notice.
As for English tea dances, I'll see what I can find...
The Internet, as I suspected, is packed with adverts, all in England. Of course it's still Today, as you put it.

50 Cent's Half a Dollar
The thing is, though, that if you look deeper into the story, he is nowhere near bankrupt. It's all just a legal dodge to protect himself from any further legal actions & any actions to retrieve the owed money, using a loophole to allow him to continue to run his multiple businesses & to continue to work as an entertainer. With the rest of his assets, $5 million is a drop in the ocean.
As is all too often the case, the more money you have, the more you can place yourself above the law.

Fitty's claim is that his debts are larger than his assets.

It would be nice if he made at least a token gesture and took to using public transport for a few months. New York presumably has a bus service.

Quite frankly, I don't believe that. There is also a big difference between Current & Fixed Assets. For instance, he could have properties valued at $Billions, but if he claims that they are only worth $10 that is their value as a Fixed Asset. That is the way, essentially, that corporate Tax Avoiders get away with their fraudulent activities over here. Juggling numbers so that they say they're technically making a loss. Starbucks, for instance - a really hard up company, struggling on the edge of Bankruptcy. It just wouldn't be right to tax them, now, would it.
These Chapter 11 cases can typically go on for years before a plan even gets approved."
Existing litigation could slow down Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, and vice-versa.
Jackson's filing notably comes amid a legal years-long privacy dispute between him and Lastonia Leviston over sex tape of her posted online. This week's bankruptcy efforts reportedly will halt the lawsuit and collection of the $5 million that jurors recently ordered Jackson to pay.
With a Chapter 11 approval process that could potentially take years to complete — and a payment plan likely to stretch out even longer — there's no telling just yet how long it will be until Jackson resolves his financial fiasco.
"You can propose a plan that can pay for 5,000 years if you wanted to, but nobody's going to vote for it. It's really up to what the creditors vote for and ultimately what the judge approves," Markus said. "One of the things you'll have to prove is that you're going to be likely to make the payments you're proposing to make. So the longer in the future the payments are, the harder it's going to be to satisfy that burden.
"It's one thing to say you're going to make payments for five years to somebody. It's another thing altogether to prove that you're going to have sufficient income to do it for the next 30 years. It really depends on the type of debt and his income."

A major initiative was undertaken around ten years ago in Britain.
It was felt that those over retirement age tended to get out far less than those in work. The implication was a cumulative deterioration among the elderly in both physical and mental health, the latter from depression brought on by isolation. In an attempt to increase the long-term wellness of pensioners they were each given, on application, a five-year renewable pass allowing free transport after 9am on any bus in the country - not the express inter-city coaches, but all the others.
These free passes have dramatically increased the numbers of travellers using buses, increased bus company income and helped to keep routes sufficiently profitable that they can stay open - the pass, when presented for travel, results in a local government payment to the bus operator for that trip.
