Dean Potter lived his life "pushing the envelope", a phrase coined by airplane test pilots in the mid 20th century.

Potter won acclaim free-climbing some of the most challenging places in the world.

He solo-climbed the El Capitan and Half Dome in a 24 hour period, and once climbed El Capitan in 3 hours, 24 minutes.

Earlier this month, he climbed Half Dome in 1 minute, 19 seconds, and made the return trip in less then a minute. No one has ever made the return trip faster, and lived to tell about it.

He was also among the premiere Base-jumpers in the world. The wing-suit was his latest passion. Perfect for base-jumping.

He once jumped off the Eiger with a wing-suit.

Well, he had to know that one day something would go wrong. Yesterday was that day.

But to go doing what you love, THAT is life.

Good bye, Dean. High Peaks and Blue Skies.
