I've just had an odd experience. I woke up around midnight (a common occurrence these last months) and as I was watching the television I suddenly got very dizzy and my tongue went numb. It only lasted about 10 minutes, but what the hell was that all about?

I don't want to put the frighteners on you HT, but dizziness can be to do with the heart. Numbness of the tongue, because there are so many blood vessels in the tongue, could indicate that there may be a blockage of some sort, maybe a blood clot? I seriously advise having a thorough check-up at your doctors, and sooner rather than later...........

my medical knowledge is limited to when something new is wrong with me, but better to get a quick check then to wait for it to happen again, IMO.

I've been trying to see a doctor since early this morning, left my number but 6 hours later ........ nothing. I just rang again. Still nothing. I could ring the emergency services but I'm not one for drama.

Well, my doctor has me take a baby aspirin a day to help prevent stroke, but I read as many negatives as I do positives on that one.

It is not a matter I feel competent to comment on. Every Google search I've tried suggests you're pregnant.

I hope your proper medic responds soon, you must be feeling frustrated after this delay.

I have to agree with this... 'they' say you have 12 hours from stroke onset to have a chance of preventing permanent damage. You need to be looked at soon.

You are obviously concerned, HT. What does your wife think ? Maybe it would be a good idea, under the circumstances, to ring the emergency services, better safe than sorry. Don't be too proud, what action you take now could affect the rest of your life ! Do you have 'Drop in Medical Centres' like we have in the UK ? If so go there. You can't raise your doctor and you are worried that you may be having a warning that you could be on the verge of a stroke, so you ring the emergency services ! Job done ! It does concern me that there is no return call from your doctor's office though ! Bugger the drama HT, just ring the emergency services !

Well HT has gone offline. Maybe he has rung the emergency services, I hope so. What has happened to HT could be just a false alarm, however on the other hand it could be a warning, and there is no doctor on hand to check him out so I hope he is on his way to A & E. Recently my Brother had severe low back pain & the pain increased even with all our home remedies. I took his blood pressure and rushed him to the ER.

His body was in pain internally - kidney stones - surgery soon.

There's a specialist agency down by the railway station.

When I had cancer, before diagnosis, all kinds of weird things were happening in my body, on my body, due to my immune system shutting down & becoming useless. The worst thing was burning tongue. Agonizing. Turned out to be trench mouth, like a baby gets. I never had such maddening pain, it was horrid, & hard to get rid of.

We had a thread on that eight years ago, Double Helix started it and it was headed Burning Tongue Syndrome. I'd search for it but I bet the system generates a link at the bottom of the page without me bothering. It sounded awful, I'm glad I've escaped it so far.

My wife has been wanting an appointment with her Doctor, she tells me on my arrival home from work that the receptionist said "Sorry we are full today, phone again tomorrow morning"

So I said to her ask for an appointment at the earliest opening they have available. She tells me she has to phone after 8.00am daily until they fit her in.

I blow my top and tell her to insist (I don't often blow my top) Anyway........I phone them up and politely ask for the next available appointment, they tell me phone after 8.00 am tomorrow, I ask how big a window is there to phone, what if I phone at say 8.30am. They tell me that may be too late, so I say can I book for the next day please ? No they say you must phone after 8.00.am.

I tell them my wife has phoned 3 days on the trot with no joy, all appointments are taken, so why can't she book now for the following day ? We don't work like that she tells me, so my wife will die at home holding the phone I tell them. Oh she can come to the Surgery on the off chance we can fit her in, she says. So I say why can't I book one of them off chance places ? We don't work like that she says.

I am trying to get her to change Doctors.

Gawd, I know the feeling Bruv. However, at least in our surgery they have started a telephone appointment service where the patient phones the surgery and asks for such an appointment. The doctor rings you back to discuss your problem, if he thinks he needs to actually see you he will tell you to make an appointment. You are fitted in as soon as they have a space, which at our surgery is not very long. This facility was introduced over a year ago to avoid people bringing germs into the waiting room, and it works very well. Our surgery also does have a similar system as Bruv, and on the rare occasions that I have used it, I have been fitted in that morning ! This would indicate that Bruv's surgery needs more GPs !

None of us are doctors. When it might be important, but you don't feel it worth bothering the Emergency Services & can't get to see your G.P. for a couple of weeks (which is usually the case), then call the NHS 111 line. They have trained triage teams who will do an initial diagnosis. If they believe it to be more urgent, they will contact the Emergency Services for you.

The problem here is, though, that this is only applicable to the U.K. Perhaps there are other National variations?

We have different Doctors, I never have a problem getting an appointment.

I just cannot understand how a practice can run like that and serve their patients.

They do need more Doctors or less patients or a filtering system so that the lottery of first in line isn't the method of deciding who gets to see the Doctor.

The 111 system sends you to A&E 9 times out of 10 and so blocks up that avenue of treatment for others.

I finally got through to “booking and advice”. She told me to go to emergency and she'd forward my particulars. I went down and cued for 4 hours. Blood pressure, rubber hammer on the knee, following her finger with my eyes, EKG, etc. She told me I was alright but if I ever feel one side of my face or body go slack that I ought to ring an ambulance immediately. In the mean-time have the doc on the corner check my blood pressure and EKG for comparison. A dreadful night, made worse by the fact that I'd had a tooth pulled ½ hour before going to the hospital. :yh_tired

We have quick care clinic run by hospitals in our area. One is located right in the local Walmart and another is located next to our larger grocery store. They have recently added one attached to our largest fitness gym. Feeling off, just pop in for around $50 and they will check you out.

The one I popped into last year had ex-ray equipment for my knee right on site. I got referred to my knee doctor that day.

We are pleased to note the continued existence of our Northern Correspondent. I recommend a day in bed after all that.

Either the tooth pain or the anesthetic might have been the problem., hope that is the end of it though.

You're kidding, of course. In two threads you made mention in several posts of how liberated your life is (and you spoke in depth) since you put me on ignore. Thank G-d I don't remember the 2 separate threads. It was very insulting, lucky for me I am not insulted, but I'm not happy about it either.

Unless you've become a nazi, I will not fall out with you. My very best friend of over 40 years is politically as far to the right as I am to the left, & we love each other. I forgive people, & rest assured I can't imagine us not being friends. So there.
