Did you know holly, mistletoe, and poinsettia plants are poisonous to dogs or cats? If you normally use these plants to decorate your home, they should be kept in an area your pet cannot reach.
Tinsel can add a nice sparkling touch to the tree, but make sure you hang it up out of your pet's reach. Ingesting the tinsel can potentially block their intestines, which is generally only remedied through surgical means.
Edible tree decorations -- whether they be ornaments, or cranberry or popcorn strings -- are like time bombs waiting to happen. These goodies are just too enticing and your pet will surely tug at them, knocking down your wonderfully decorated spruce.

We're ready, but I want to add keeping chocolates out of their reach, as well, sometimes pets have
been known to tear into a wrapped box of candy under the tree!!
Beware also of 'snow globes' the fluid in them is very toxic. I'll maybe go bump my thread on that.
Some of these things also are more toxic to smaller dogs, too. And the reactions do vary. A
75 pound shepherd I had once ate the entire contents of 3 poinsettias I had in my front hall,
consumed them totally, with nothing left but about 4 inches of main stalk! She was absolutely
fine, too... no vomiting or malaise of any kind!
I present the above as a curiosity, not to encourage anyone to be lax about watching out
for these things!

There was a fun phone in on the radio this morning for Austerity Gifts for your ptes. One of the best ones I heard was after having cooked the turkey, roll the foil into a ball. You cat will love playing with it.
Now that's austerity.

All timely warnings, thank you. Glad chocolate was mentioned particularly Dark chocolate because of the flavonoids and the theobromides. Flavonoids are good for human beings but can mean death to dogs and cats. Pet chocolate does not have flavonoids in.
I'm a Saga-lout, growing old disgracefully

My dog is safe. I don't have a tree.

I can still remember when I was about 6 months old, we had a tree with real candles. The wax was dripping all over the tree, but that was fine by me, because I wasn't in charge of putting out fires in the home. My dad looked after that. I'm just glad the curtains never caught fire. They were too close to the tree for my liking. I suppose that experience turned me into a very safety consciences person.
In case you read all this, forget it, I'm just being silly.:yh_giggle
