Hang on, I grew up with some of these objects on the antiques programmes! And they were ordinary, everyday objects.

Cigarette cases, soup bowls, post WW2 odds and sods, Dinky cars...the list is endless. I suppose it's a shock realising that these things are considered antiques nowadays and therefore so am I.

The term 'Antique' is used very loosely, as the official definition is that it has to be more than 100 years old. Sometimes there seems to be only a very slight difference between Antique, Vintage & Retro.

Unless, of course, you count them in Doggy Years.

According to my grandson, anything that existed before the iPhone is an antique.

It's funny this thread because I was only talking about this last night and future antiques.

Does anyone remember Wade Whimsy's or the pink china pigs Nat West bank gave away In the 70's ? They are going for big money now...

I was at a Car Boot a few weeks ago and spied an ' Alexandra'.... he wanted £25 and I ummed and arred because I do believe they will be much sought after In the future. Then Sunday, at a different Car Boot, some daft woman sold me one for £2... Worth more with the box but they are already exchanging hands for £25 on E Bay

I have a hard-working efficient and skilled woman-who-does down the end of the road who complimented my place-mats last time I took them in to be laundered. I have a strong suspicion that place-mats have already gone out of fashion too. Along with the last, the po, the flatiron and the trivet, all of which I grew up using.

I can't be doing with irons that have cables hanging out their back ends. What does one use as an alternative?

Wear the clothes wrinkled, that way they will match your body.

I never iron clothes, but I would like to iron my handkerchiefs and bedlinen.

They now have irons that mount to a wall-mounted power source, you remove it from the source and power it up. power down and return it to the source to recharge. The hotel I where I was staying last week had them. I wonder at how long the thing can remain disconnected to from the power source, and remain useful.

That sounds ideal. What might one call such a device?
