I do.

Conch shells this large are extremely rare now they can not be brought Into the UK

I snapped this up at the car boot sale Sunday. It wasn't cheap as these this size exchange hands for a lot of money these days especially, like this one, If they are In perfect condition with no chips.

It's gorgeous!

Why can't they be brought into the UK? Fear it may still have the conch inside?

The beaches we normally go to don't have them this large. But you can get them in a souvenir store. I went to Miami and there were several on the beach and NO ONE WAS PICKING THEM UP!!! I was shocked! I brought two large ones home.

If you blow in it, does it make a noise?

HM Revenue & Customs

My dear friend on this forum Kathy Ellen posted me some conch's one Christmas from America and I have them In the bathroom. I love them.

When I first spotted this one on a stall, I Initially thought It had to be fake. When I picked It up and saw It wasn't, then I thought, It had to be damaged but no, not one chip.

I didn't flinch when he told me the price because I knew what big one's went for In this country. He knew also but I was happy because It was still less than gift shops etc.

I haven't tried blowing It yet though.

I have several of them

Conch Shells are still blown in Hawaii as boats leave & return to the beach.

I love them. I use to have quite a shell collection - got rid of most - kept my Conch shells.

They are not common & difficult to find.

Patsy I've never seen one as large as this before. The seller knew the worth, hence the price he was asking and lucky for me, I think that's what put others off from snapping It up.

Poor man was almost apologetic, explaining to me why he was asking so much money and I told him I also knew their worth. He seemed relieved :wah: It's a culture In this country that people want everything for pennies at these sales. Their loss, my gain.

I can't help feeling the blowing of the conches in Hawaii are more of a tourist thing that an actual event, as such.

In the meantime, down here, we're limited to blowing on a winkle shell.

It's not a tourist blow

It's a warning to the surfers & all in the water as the boats leave & return as the boats return right on the beach.

I have several of these large conch shells in perfect condition which I'll keep forever.
