Just found this old thread....I listen to Radio Five Live....no music just News and Sport ....there are music, film , theatre reviews etc. One big drawback....Nicky Campbell on the early morning slot !

So much sport has moved to digital now....rip of...

I like the live sports commentarys...They cover all the big events.....the guys put a lot of effort into explaining the rules and describing the action. The big advantage is that I can listen and visit FG at the same time. I watch very little TV nowadays.

I used to listen to the radio all the time until it broke, and has never been fixed since. Only really listen to CD's now and even then that's rare.

Well I used to listen to our local Wyvern radio station as it played some pretty good songs most of the time, (had a lot of ads mind u which was a bit of a pain.) I also listened occasionally to Radio 1 and the sport dedicated channel, (I believe it was called Talksport.)

Now though I listen to my Mike Oldfield CD's, (you've probably never heard of him, but he does musical numbers such as Tubular Bells.) I also have a collection of songs that are taken from the game track off Grand Theft Auto, which contains lots of really good 80's and 90's songs. My personal favourite is Toto's Africa - love that song!!

What about u Bez?

I listen to Radio Five Live for the news, sport and discussions and If I fancy a bit of music it's Daniel Beddingfield, katie Meluah, G4....I also like Queen, Ricky Martin, Billy Joel. When I was a teenager, I liked Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

If I'm in a mellow mood...I light the Incense sticks and relax to Clannad, Enya, Sacred Spirit....that kind of stuff

Indeed it is a lovely song. Here are the lyrics for anyone foolish enough to not know it!!

Toto - Africa

I hear the drums echoing tonight

But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation

She’s coming in 12:30 flight

The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation

I stopped an old man along the way

Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies

He turned to me as if to say, hurry boy, it’s waiting there for you

Chorus:

It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you

There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do

I bless the rains down in africa

Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night

As they grow restless longing for some solitary company

I know that I must do what’s right

Sure as kilimanjaro rises like olympus above the serengeti

I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become

Chorus

(instrumental break)

Hurry boy, she’s waiting there for you

It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you

There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do

I bless the rains down in africa, I bless the rains down in africa

I bless the rains down in africa, I bless the rains down in africa

I bless the rains down in africa

Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Depends what kind of mood I'm in and the time-I am driving around quite a lot.

When I get fed up being stuck in an edinbirgh traffic jam I tune ib to radio two to get the traffic reports. Once I stop laughing about the M25 where I am doesn't seem so bad, usd to lie in London so I know where they are`talking about.

Not mainstream for sure, cant stand hyped up cd jays. Driving from one end of the country and back several times will give you a very clear picture of the destruction Clear Channel has caused by buying up the entire market. Once in awhile you can find pockets of local community radio still doing obscure blues, jazz, whatever but their signal is usually weak.

So I download and burn mixes, Ive got so many cd s in my car I dont know where to keep them but at least I have a wide variety of music you cant hear on the radio.

If I do listen its usually smooth jazz but their song list is a repeating cycle as well.

Hello

Phone-in radio contests are excellent sweepstakes to try to win because the number of entries is much lower than most sweepstakes. Only people in your area who are listening at the right time will be able to enter, and a good portion of the ones who are listening won't bother to try to win. This means that your chances of winning are very high. Furthermore, by entering intelligently, you can boost your chances even more.

Listen to Different Radio Stations

In order to stay abreast of current radio sweepstakes, listen to a couple of different radio stations whenever you have the time. Get to know the stations' patterns, like when they announce their "song of the day" and which DJs are more likely to hold competitions. Remember that some stations offer streaming audio of their stations so that you can listen to them on your computer, even when you are not near a radio.
