Seriously, I am fully expecting someone to call their baby ' hmmmm Danone' after a probiotic drink next.

A year ago my revolting neighbour ( yes her again, her of the rotten teeth ), named her baby something I can't even spell let alone pronounce. Gorgeous baby, love him to bits but we just can't wrap our heads around the name which Is spelt entirely different to the way It's pronounced. She's miffed now that after a year, we have spelt his birthday card wrong.

When I was at school, teachers had It easy... 10 Johns, 6 Michael's, 7 George's and so on.... now, I really feel for them especially at the way some of these Mums get when they don't get It right.

Even my own great niece has just named her baby boy something and on asking where she got It from, I'm told ' oh I made It up'... now I can't for the life of me spell It...

We have some teachers on FG... do you get this ?

A name is just a series of letters by which to identify an individual. I like Moon Unit and $haniqua. They have a uniqueness to them.

I like them and would be able to remember them and possibly spell them but my neighbours baby starts with an M. ends with SZ and has a C and a U In It and It's pronounced with a silent SZ.... what chance have I got ?

Don't get me wrong... every baby Is unique and It's not so much the uniqueness of the name but the wacky spelling so the child goes through life saying ' No, It's M blah blah.. Then they get hissy with folk who forget how to spell It.

You must remember that $haniqua is spelled with a dollar sign and not an "S"

If you want good made up names look no further than the afro caribbean community.

When I'm In the company of my neighbour and the baby, I call him Baba... now she's had a hissy fit because I didn't spell his name correctly on birthday card.

People like to think their offspring or special and unique and like to think their names are too. If they cant think of a made up name they add a letter or two to conventional ones.

I always felt sorry for the kids in school whose parents had decided to give them some cute name that was difficult to pronounce. I could see them wince when the profs would call the roll and they would have to correct the pronunciation and then repeat the correction every time they were called on throughout the semester.

well I compromised. I didn't like Keegan and the ex didn't like Kieran.........So I split it and came up with Keehan. .......................Just to find out months later it's a centuries old surname. And here I was thinking I was being creative pfft!

But you see, there's a rhyme and reason to that and the choice being something you are your husband put thought In to. It's when there's some stupid name deliberately spelt different to the way It's pronounced just so the parent can show off their ' wackiness' that Irks me. The baby of my neighbour also has the middle names of Thor and Odin..

My husband worked in the medical field for years and told me about a lady who had a baby and she named it--I will try to spell it phonetically here--As-swo-le, with a thingy over the 'e'. But it was spelled,. . . . wait for it,. . . . . . A**h**e. The nurse refused to write it down and told her to pick another name or spell it differently.

Good grief!

I bet half of the names don't get accepted by authorities.

I heard a story some years ago and I was told apparently It was a true story.

At a Baptism of their baby, the parents are at the Font. The Vicar comes to that moment where he asks the Mother what this child Is named. She says ' Anne' and stresses Anne with an E meaning It wasn't spelt Ann.

Apparently the Vicar then said, ' I bless this child Ann Withaney'...

And did you hear about Mr and Mrs Tupp who named their daughter Belle ?

My job involves processing new-hires for our Company. I see many, many "made-up" names on applications mostly young African-Americans. It is a challenge to make sure the names are spelled..........correctly?...in my computer at work.

While working on site in Harare, I needed to borrow one of those hand drills and asked if there were any chippies on site. "Yes", I was told, "Ask their foreman, Hitler"

I had to have him confirm several times that I'd heard the name right. What was his mother and father thinking ??
