A Moment in Silence

A number of people laid flowers and observed a minute's silence in the seaside village of Mullaghmore County Sligo yesterday to mark the 25th anniversary of the violent death of Lord Louis Mountbatten. At the precise moment the IRA bomb exploded 11.45am. Lord Mountbatten a grandson of Queen Victoria,was 79 years old at the time of his murder.Also killed in the blast were his 14-year old grandson Nicholas and his Aunt Lady Brabourne aged 82.

There was no representation from the British government or the Royal Family.

A Senior IRA activist was convicted and jailed for his part in the atrocity. He was later released on The Good Friday Agreement.
