A study shows near 2,000pc rise in price of beer over four decades

I tell the tale of ordering a pint and a half ounce rolling tabacco and being embarrassed they wanted more than the 50p I offered, this story never stands up under scrutiny and so I always backdown, thinking it might have been a pound.

At last I am vindicated.

Do you remember these sort of prices?

Seems like another world now.

When I started drinking it was 1s10d a pint and cigarettes were 1s11d for twenty - and petrol was 6s4d a gallon so yes, your story does stand up and I do remember those prices.

Yup. Money's just not worth what it used to be.
