Any recommendations for a good quality, basic & small in size printer? The more compact the better!

Black and white or colour?
Low or heavy use?
Frequent or infrequent use? (I used to write a quarterly newsletter - I didn't print often but when I did I printed a lot).
FWIW, I've changed over to small laser printers. A b&w in the flat cost me £50 new and the colour one at home cost £65 but I've still not had to buy ink for them three years down the line and I'd have had to replace inkjets at least once each by now.

I have an HP officeJet 4500 that works fairly well.
It cost me about $60 US when I bought it, and it costs me about $50 US to replace cartridges. Medium usage, probably every 6 months.
My only complaint is that It has to be on the same subnet as my PC for the network connection to work.
Most users probably won't care about that.

Main reason I don't like HP is the intrusive bloatware they saddle you with just to print a document

Yeah, there is that.
Though a while back I bought a Samsung printer and they pulled the same stunt.
And their printer was less reliable than my HP.
