Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.

I suppose it's a long term plan.

Short term push - the more it works the less it's needed so it automatically stops before completion.

The point were we decimate rain forests.

The point where while we scoff steak, a third of the worlds children die from starvation or by drinking polluted water.

The point were dictatorships arm their militia rather than feed their people.

The point where we can say ' I'm alright Jack, f*** the rest'.

that's not overpopulation that's greed. Still not convinced.

Just to sustain the population we have, today's population Is using natural resources faster than they can be regenerated. It's over-population that Is now seeing man use those resources. Why do you think governments around the world are promoting GM crops? Farmland gives way to new housing, we've depleted fossil fuels, drained the oceans beyond regeneration of some species and the destruction of eco systems such as the rain forests. The only thing being, that those natural resources go to the highest bidder ie The West and third world countries still suffer. How long do think It'll be before those natural resources run out?

An interesting example:

Most of California is under a severe drought. Dairy farmers and Cattle ranchers are selling off their stock because they cannot get hay to feed them, farmers are trying to prioritize which crops to maintain, and which fields to abandon.

Meanwhile, The imperial valley region in Southern California is using its water resources to grow Hay that will be exported to China to feed dairy cattle there.

One documentary that I watched on TV a couple or so years ago, horrified me. Apparently GM crops are sterile. Before Genetically Modified processes came into being, crops could and did reseed themselves. GM crops will not be able to do this, so the question I ask is how the heck do we reproduce our crops year after year if the damn things are sterile !!!! ????? It looks like the answer is :-2 What a load of tossers !

The water system for most of California is a series of reservoirs that fill from snow melt in the high mountains. Many of these reservoirs have earthen dams or old dams in need of modernizing. There are dry years and wet years, depending on the snow pack. In the dry years, they cry about how low the reservoirs are and talk about enforced water conservation measures. In the wet years, they get very excited as the reservoirs begin to fill and then have to spill the water because the old dams can't handle the water levels being more than half or 2/3 full.

Never does it seemingly occur to those in charge to fix the damn dams when it is a dry year and the reservoirs are almost empty. They spend the money on something else. The pattern has repeated over and over again without any politician gaining a clue.

Instead of nature supplying the seed for next year you have to go back to the multinational company that supplied the seed last year.

I watched a lecture from some bloke who reckons population growth will reach a plateau, as the poor of the world's education and standard of living increases, the need to have more children will lessen as their survival rates improve.

This is measurably happening in many places right now.

We in the UK are now 2 inches deep in water.................everywhere. :sneaky:

Many summers in many areas they have water shortages with hose and car wash bans.

We are sorrounded by water the furthest away from the sea you can get is maximum about 70 miles.

We have large areas that could be used for reservoirs, we could vastly improve drainage, we could and do build safely on flood plains, but cut corners for the sake of saving cash on the build.

Just down the road to where I live much of the farmland was historically reclaimed from the sea.....Romney Marsh..........dont think any of it was affected by these recent floods, which proves a point I think.

Man has managed nature for centuries, mainly for short term profit.

Much of our drainage and water supply network was built years and years ago, without replacement or decent mantainance.....................and we wonder why we have trouble with our aging water works........(there is a joke in there if you wish)

I watched a lecture from some bloke who predicted that as the population became unsustainable, a new, deadly disease would appear such as the black death did, and wipe millions of us out.

But the trouble is where does this so-called multinational company get this seed from ? And how does this multinational flamin' company manage to keep producing seeds year after year ? If all the crops are GM crops and sterile. Also, what damage is it doing to people who eat this stuff over a period of time ? Sorry but it just does not make any sense at all to me !!!! :-5

Much of the worlds food shortage Is down to failing crops. GM crops use the DNA and through genetic engineering can eradicate disease, pests and even weather conditions ensuring a crop every year. That's why they are sterile. It's producing a new strain of crop from original crop and engineering It to survive what ever.

They get the seed from original seed and then modify It to survive.

As long as GM crops are labelled and we have a choice as to weather we eat It or not, I can't see a problem. If It eradicates starvation In the third world, then good.

I disagree, much of the worlds food shortage is down to distrubution problems, food and finance.

It's not about weather the population Is In decline. It's about sourcing what Is needed now and today for population.

It's very easy to look around Alaska or the Gobi Dessert and say plenty of room for another 100 million. It's weather the planet has enough resources to feed them and house them. It's what's already here and the depleted resources that's the problem.

IF.....that huge word again......the resources were shared, you could feed a couple of 3rd world families with the good food in any UK High st refuse bins that we throw away every day.

That is just me being idealistic, but I am sure we shouldn't rely on colonising other planets to survive.

Keep looking at the sky will only make you step in even more shi*e.

We could product a lot more food than we do if the EU would allow us to sell food to the third world at discounted prices they could afford to pay.

Thank you for reminding me.

I believe that there has always been tariffs to restrict foodstuff from many third world countries until very recently................maybe times they are a changing......hopefully.

I'm talking about export restrictions and the restrictions imposed on our growing food enacted within the Common Agricultural Policy in order to stop the damaging headlines like the beef mountain and the milk lake - not the restrictions on importing food from the third world.

We're deliberately throttling back on the amount of food we grow by paying farmers NOT to farm their land - we could grow a lot more than we do.

Alright alright.......I was agreeing with you.

I should have said aswell as or in addition to the tariffs we imposed (until recently apparently) to keep cheaper products out from 3rd world farmers.
