"I Don't Like Mondays" is a song by the Boomtown Rats written by Bob Geldof.
On January 29, 1979, 16 year old Brenda Spencer killed two men and wounded nine children at the Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego. She fired rifle shots from her home across the street from the school.
After surrendering she was asked for some explanation for what she had done and allegedly said: “I just don’t like Mondays. I did this because it’s a way to cheer up the day. Nobody likes Mondays.”
She is serving a term of 25 years to life at the California Institution for Women in Corona, California. She has been denied parole four times, most recently in 2005.
