I snack at Midnight.

Do you ?

We usually have our evening meal at 6 or 7 pm so by the time It gets to Midnight and I settle down to study the days racing, I'm peckish.

Last night was Sardines on Toast with lots of Cayenne pepper... tonight was a bowl of Hienz tomato soup with toasted cheese...

What's yours?

I rarely eat late at night but if I am snacking I like popcorn with lots of butter! Yes takes away from the healthy eating and gives me wild dreams but well worth it!!

Yesterday I had; gherkins, olives, cheese and pickled onions. (and had no stomach acid what so ever!)

My "late night snack" is never really late in the evening.. it's more around 9.30 / 10 pm.

If i'm working the next day, I'm almost always in bed by 11pm so.

I have the odd crisp.. but i'm not so fond of crisps and sweets.. sometimes I really want them, then eat them and think yuk!

I prefer olives and stuff.

I have to have my milk and cookies before I go to bed.

Sometimes, crackers, cheese and lime pickle... and I do like two lightly boiled eggs with soldiers to dip.

Soft boiled eggs are great ... Are soldiers slices of toast?

oeehh.. egg and soldiers! or shoulders as I used to call them when I was little (I couldn't pronounce soldiers :wah: )

I've been wanting to eat that for days! but i'll be burping eggs for a week if I do...

We always had the bread or "soldiers" untoasted when I was little though..

Yeah us too ...Guess our folks thought we'd choke on toast maybe.

I was always glad when spring ( egg and soldiers breakfast) hit..

Not so happy when fall time hit... Breakfast every day was: porridge..

Mum used to make a huuuuge pot for all of us.. I hated it if you got to the table late, because it would have gone cold..

I tried eating it a while back.. 3 bites down, I just couldn't do no more! Brrrr Yuk..

I cant really remember what we would snack on as kids after dinner... Think that the choice was fruit or a slice of bread.. never sweets or crisps.

Yeah a big bowl of oats in winter ... My older sister used to always have the cream off the top of the bottle on hers ... In those days milk still had cream in it.

So, I am trying to 'get' what, exactly is a Sarnie.

Google came up with a number of things and it seems vary from a basic BLT sandwich to something like the broiled Tomatoes the Brits like to serve for breakfast.

I am a bit confused. may I ask for clarification?

OK. toasted Cheese and Tomato Sarnie is what we would call a grilled Cheese and Tomato sandwich.

I was suspecting that, but some of the hits on google obfuscated the whole thing.

However, In England, a toasted Cheese sarnie or toasted cheese must not be confused with a Welsh Rarebit.

My Dad's family ate rarebit fairly often. More common was a variation that Grandma and my mom made. They would grill tomato slices, and melt cheddar over them, then serve over toast, and top with a bechamel sauce with saute'd mushrooms and pimientos. Then top that with fried bacon. Delish!!!

Hmmmm. I think I know what to have for dinner tonight. My Mother melted the cheese In a pan and mixed In Mustard, Cayenne Pepper and then poured over the toast... My Father like this mixture over hard boiled eggs also.

It's 10:30 at night here and I'm eating an Oreo cookie.

I brought home some leftover Apple Strudel from the Czech Restaurant tonight. No Oreos for me this evening.

I have to confess to being an Oreo addict, though.

It's just another name for a buttie

I used to love chip butties but I've given up on the butter and salt nowadays so they don't taste quite the same.

Cinnamon toast makes for a good supper.

I've had various roe, Shad, Salmon, and a few others. Agree. very tasty.

Tonight I feasted on Scottish Crumpets... very tasty with cheese.
