And so all us nurturing women worry about our Skittles. That was not a smart ass remark. I was wondering about her too. I think some of our teens are in trouble and if we can make a difference in their lives...... it is our responsibility to do so. I hate to quote Hillary - but based on my family - it would have been nice to have a few more grown up women role models in my life.

Very well put......I do have to say - After a long year of watching the "gothic" neighbor girl run around in black and pink hair..earings everywhere - I got the graduation annoucement - and went...She has MORE awards for "smart" things then I have EVER seen in my life..and her name was in the paper for a COMPLETE ride to University of Iowa for Physical Sciences...and here I had thought - Woman get a hold of that child before its to late...I was WRONG !WRONG !WRONG! - and I admit it!!

My daughter went through goth too - she graduated at the top of her class looking like a "normal" girl. She makes me proud of her decisions every day of her life. She calls me every other day because we are so far apart by "land". I never thought I'd be her friend. - just the evil Mom. I am honored and absolutely delighted that we are friends today.

I said in an earlier post that a young military man stole her away from me. I don't have empty nest - I just miss her. They are both coming home in late June for my wedding.

POWER in your words, "awards for the smart things done" Half our youth's trouble I think come from the fact many people fail to see the smartness in them. So many folks are so quick to judge and put them down. Yep they need to be told more often, good job, you are brilliant, way to go. I speak from experience with my own there, who everytime is put down, gets all cranked up and says horrible things about how her father never recognized the successes in her life. Ouch now that is hurting.
