One of the military bases in the state has joined with the law makers in an effort to curb usage and distribution of what they're calling "synthetic marijuana". It sounds like a grab bag of whatever ingredients happen to be available and are ultimately more dangerous than the real thing.

Except the real thing isn't dangerous, just not the best choice of activity for a young kid. It's for adults, like booze.

"They" tried to create a substance that acted like THC but wasn't illegal. However there are so many different chemicals, it's causing a lot of toxic reactions even though it's still sold over the counter in parts of the country.
I don't see why the label keeps confusing members here.

Simply because the same high is wanting to be achieved from THC doesn't make anything synthetic marijuana. It sounds like just another ploy to discredit natural marijuana.

Anyway, there's nothing in the article the OP cites as proof the the stuff smoked caused the injury to the girl. Brain damage happens from many different reasons. A friend of mine died a few years ago from what sounds very similar to what the girl suffered from. He was going away with the family on vacation and as they were getting ready to leave he began talking funny and becoming clumsy. He was brought to the hospital where it was discovered his brain had become enlarged and they had to relieve the pressure. He died a few days later. He was 52 years old.

Dontcha think that could be dangerous?Anything can cause some people to appear stupid. Marijuana doesn't make people dangerous, nor does marijuana have negative physical affects. In fact, as we all now know, marijuana helps many who suffer from certain ailments.

MENTAL HEALTH, BRAIN FUNCTION, AND MEMORY
It has been suggested that marijuana is at the root of many mental disorders, including acute toxic psychosis, panic attacks (one of the very conditions it is being used experimentally to treat), flashbacks, delusions, depersonalization, hallucinations, paranoia, depression, and uncontrollable aggressiveness. Marijuana has long been known to trigger attacks of mental illness, such as bipolar (manic-depressive) psychosis and schizophrenia. This connection with mental illness should make health care providers for terminally ill patients and the patients themselves, who may already be suffering from some form of clinical depression, weigh very carefully the pros and cons of adopting a therapeutic course of marijuana.
In the short term, marijuana use impairs perception, judgment, thinking, memory, and learning; memory defects may persist six weeks after last use. Mental disorders connected with marijuana use merit their own category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) IV, published by the American Psychiatric Association. These include Cannabis Intoxication (consisting of impaired motor coordination, anxiety, impaired judgment, sensation of slowed time, social withdrawal, and often includes perceptual disturbances; Cannabis Intoxication Delirium (memory deficit, disorientation); Cannabis Induced Psychotic Disorder, Delusions; Cannabis Induced Psychotic Disorder, Hallucinations; and Cannabis Induced Anxiety Disorder.
In addition, marijuana use has many indirect effects on health. Its effect on coordination, perception, and judgment means that it causes a number of accidents, vehicular and otherwise.

Just linking to something on the internet does not make it credible. Your link does not provide an author, it doesn't cite any studies to back up its claims (other than links to more blogs at the bottom).
IOW, what you've offered is a blog with a bunch of speculation listed on it. Just because it says Harvard Law means nothing. Ask yourself why a site claiming to be a legal site is writing about medical and psychological subjects.
Did you read it? Probably not.
Did you look for verification of the claims? Definitely not.

I could sit here all night posting countless links to the side effects. Perhaps If you believe you are such an authority, you could research the side effects yourself ?
This however, Is fact

As for driving: nobody should drive a vehicle while in any altered state of mind, which includes being emotional.

Marijuana is botanically a 'vegetable' . Vegies are good for you ...and has been proven over and over again that it is good for you . Trouble is when the chemical makeup of the plant is altered it has differing affects. For instance to seperate the THC from the plant and heat it will have physical/medical side affects if taken. Exactly the same for any vegetable or herb.
BUT.......did you know that if you were to eat or juice the plant for health reasons as you would any other vegetable it has no side affects relating to "drug taking" and is actually extremely good for you. Unfortunetly to acquire the true health benefits of a raw plant you would need to extract the juice of the whole plant. That means and entire plant every day. it's not sustainable. mores the pity.
I did know a young lad many years ago who got it in h is head that the best and cheapest high was to dry out and smoke his mothers garden plants. Seriously he smoked everyday household variety plants and flowers. It sent him psychotic. Last I heard it majorly damaged his organs and he's still psychotic.

Took several years to clean my lungs out. While there's no question breathing anything other than pure, unadulterated, clean air can be hazardous to any animal, marijuana appears to possibly somewhat offset the damage that air pollution has been doing to us. Not that I'm advocating anyone smoke marijuana, I'm not. Please note the citations in the following link that supports the contents of the reply.
