My neighbor is a federal employee. He has some furlough days scheduled. I don't know how many or when.

The most surprising thing to me was that this actually doesn't reduce our budget, it just reduces how much we can increase it by.. if I read that correctly.:-3
I know that where I work we took real pay cuts to insure we wouldn't have to lay off any of the hourly workers. As folks left or retired, we haven't replaced them, but rather, spread the work a little further. There is NO overtime. Managers cover if need be.
IMO, we are tightening our belts. The goverment is just making noises about it.

We used to have eight production controllers in my area, now we're down to three with the same or more amount of work. We've been struggling like this for years... I don't know how else when could cut back.

A friend/coworker went to her oncology clinic at Brooks Army Medical Center for chemo. The TV had a blue screen with white writing that said the cable TV had to be cut off due to sequestration cuts. Mind you, it wasn't a piece of paper taped to the TV. It was a display. I guess they can afford the electricity just not the cable. The rooms still have service, though.
She said they've stopped the tram service that ran through the vast parking lot to take patients to and from their cars. She also received no pillow while getting her chemo, also a sequester-cut.

It has impacted federal employees greatly in the Baltimore/D.C. area. There are specific furlough days planned or already taking place, in some areas up to 14 days per year. It ranges from military to civil service employees, and more furlough days in other areas are being decided as this continues. The number of layoffs is hard to track, but many contracted companies/services had already laid off in Decemeber a large number of employees.

It's passive-aggressive manipulation on a national scale. :yh_wait:yh_shame
