In Britain, his ‘open door’ immigration policies have been criticised by all sides.

But in Poland, which was transformed by entry into the EU, Tony Blair is feted as a hero.

And yesterday the former Prime Minister was handed a special award for helping hundreds of thousands of Poles come to live in the UK.

He was honoured with the gong at the annual Polish Business Leaders Awards ceremony in Warsaw.

Mr Blair's prize paid tribute to his backing for Poland’s efforts to join the EU, opening up the British labour market to Poles and overseeing a growth in trade between the two countries while in office.

Great Britain really has a serious immigration problem, doesn't it oscar?

No! Not at all! I really feel for you. I'm not technically against immigration, after all America was founded by immigrants, but I do have a serious problem with those who immigrate, then refuse to assimilate, learn the language and custom,s and instead set up their own little enclave inside the country.

If you wanted to come to America, fine. Come here and be American. But don't try to change our country into yours.

I have good reasons for this position. Groups that don't assimilate are feared by the locals. People always fear the unknown. If you can't communicate with someone then you can't be sure their not against you and you can't work out mutual problems together. The larger group will be more powerful and will begin to pass laws against the smaller group. The smaller group will lash back, especially if they are the original inhabitants.

That leads to "Balkanization" which leads to murder and genocide.



i've heard a lot lately about British Muslims setting up areas under Sharia and either ignoring British Law or trying to change it. That's exactly what I'm talking about.

We have a similar problem here in New Mexico. As a matter of fact illegal immigration by Mexicans is so bad that we have begun printing labels and tests in two languages. I feel that is a bad idea for the previous mentioned reasons.

(Besides, I wouldn't emigrate to China and demand that all Chinese people learn English. That just seems rude!)

We are even issuing official driver's licenses to illegals just so we can make sure that they are insured and trained. (They drive anyway without them.)

I have been called a racist before Saint and I do post threads on Immigration. First, I have to snigger at anyone who uses the word 'racist' to shut down an argument because It appears It has nothing to do with race. The word was first used by Trotsky to slander opponents of The Red Army.....

My stance on Immigration Is this....

There Is a world of difference between a China Town In London and London being Chinese.

There Is a world of difference between my home city having a Latin Quarter and my home town being Latin.

I believe Immigration should be controlled so that anyone entering my country has enough money to support themselves, a job to go to, a sponser and accomodation.

I do not want dependants coming to my country simply because they have a relative here and expecting my government to house them, pay them welfare, give their children free education and free health service when they refuse to Integrate, learn my language, the language of their host country and never be able to work because of It.

I expect them to abide by the laws of my country and respect our culture, history and tradition.

If they break the law I expect them to be deported so the tax payer Is not keeping them In a comfy cell.

In times of recession and austerity, I expect my government to cap Immigration.

I would like to see Immigrants wait a minimum of 5 years and spend 5 years In work before they are given a council house.

That's funny, oscar, because you just listed the immigration requirements for Mexico almost exactly. I laugh because they won't let anyone in who doesn't have a college degree, preferably technical, but they scream bloody murder at the U.S. if we suggest such a thing for immigrating to America.

I particually like the reference to the equilibrium of the national demographics as this Is something that we argue here... we allege that the previous labour government under Tony Blair were reckless and without heed as to how mass Influx's would change the demographics of our country. Labour did release a report but this was found to be deeply flawed by an Independant Inquiry due to not taking descendants Into account.
